Image steganography is a method to embed secret messages in image media so that secret information can only be known to the sender and intended recipient of the message. One of the image steganography methods is Pixel Density Transition (PDT) by Lu et al. (2021) which uses halftone images as the embedding medium. This method has limited embedding capacity, so to overcome this problem, Sum and Difference Covering Set (SDCS) method by Li et al. (2008) is proposed to be implemented in the PDT method to increase the embedding capacity.
This research implements (2021) Pixel Density Transition steganography method by Lu et al. (2021) which utilizes two pixel density bins to embed messages. This research also modifies Pixel Density Transition (PDT) steganography method by Lu et al. (2021) with the Sum and Difference Covering Set (SDCS) method by Li et al. (2008) so it could utilize more than two density bins (multi bin) to embed messages. Then, this research compares the embedding capacity, embedding time, and visual quality of the image obtained for the two methods.
From the research results obtained, Pixel Density Transition method by Lu et al. (2021) that is modified with Sum and Difference Covering Set (SDCS) by Li et al. (2008) has an average 1.711 times greater embedding capacity than the PDT method. However, the PDT-SDCS method has an average 1.696 slower embedding time compared to the PDT method. In addition, the PDT-SDCS method produces images that have worse visual quality than the PDT method.
