Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are predicted to be an important pillar of the Indonesian economy. Most economic actors in Indonesia are MSMEs and Small and Medium Industries (SMI), as well as in Yogyakarta. A total of 6,222 IKM units were recorded by the Yogyakarta City Industry and Trade Service in 2018, with 36,990 workers and an investment value of IDR 2,382,250,000. The characteristics of Yogyakarta City are a challenge in finding industrial space and also cause a risk of spatial conflict between industrial and housing functions. This is the impact of the economic symptoms and the inevitable urban involution so that problems with labor absorption in the informal sector are found.
SMI in Sorosutan Village is now the center of the aluminum processing industry. In its development, SMI in Sorosutan has various business problems. The focus of attention on the problems faced is directed at the interpretation of business strategies that cause aluminum craft businesses to develop, survive, or go bankrupt. The diversity of these conditions presents a diversity of strategies in interpreting the business problems faced.
Rational thinking of entrepreneurs that is closely related to the formalist approach can be explained through ethnographic research methods. Based on the findings obtained, it is suspected that industrial business problems are related to capital, labor, production, innovation, marketing, economic crisis, cooperatives, UPT Logam, and environmental issues. Rational behavior of entrepreneurs forces them to negotiate with various complexities of business problems so that it gives rise to an adaptive attitude of entrepreneurs to create a new consensus in society and business dynamics. Various business negotiations crystallize in the strategies of entrepreneurs who struggle to gain profits in the midst of an accumulated and uncertain market.
