Kajian Linguistik Fungsional Sistemik terhadap Pencarian Representasi dan Identitas Tokoh dalam Antologi Cerpen Nouvelles Vertes

Tujuan dari penulisan tesis ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan proses transitivitas dan teknik penggambaran tokoh yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan representasi dan identitas tokoh-tokoh pada cerpen-cerpen dalam antologi Nouvelles Vertes. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk menjelaskan faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi penggunaan proses transitivitas dan teknik penggambaran tokoh dalam menunjukkan representasi dan identitas tokoh-tokoh pada cerpen-cerpen antologi Nouvelles Vertes. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Data penelitian ini adalah klausa-klausa yang menunjukkan representasi dan identitas tokoh pada cerpen-cerpen dalam antologi Nouvelles Vertes. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menyimak dan mencatat klausa-klausa yang menunjukkan representasi dan identitas tokoh pada cerpen-cerpen dalam antologi Nouvelles Vertes. Adapun analisis data dilakukan dengan teori transitivitas dalam Linguistik Fungsional Sistemik dari Halliday dan teori teknik penggambaran tokoh dari Nurgiyantoro.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses transitivitas yang digunakan dalam menjelaskan representasi dan identitas tokoh-tokoh pada cerpen-cerpen antologi Nouvelles Vertes adalah proses material, mental, behavioral, relasional, dan verbal. Di samping itu, penelitian ini juga meunjukkan bahwa setiap teknik penggambaran tokoh dapat diwakili oleh proses transitivitas yang berbeda jika dilihat dari proses transitivitas yang dominan digunakan. Adapun faktor-faktor linguistik yang memengaruhi penggunaan proses transitivitas dan teknik penggambaran tokoh adalah bentuk kala dan modus verba pengungkap proses, bentuk Partisipan, dan pemilihan kosakata. Di samping itu, terdapat pula pengaruh dari faktor non-linguistik berupa teknik penceritaan yang digunakan dan faktor pengarang cerita.

The purpose of this thesis is to describe transitivity processes and character depiction techniques used to explain the characters’ representation and identities in the short stories of “Nouvelles Vertes” anthology. Besides that, this study also aims to describe the factors affecting the use of the transitivity processes and character depiction techniques showing the characters’ representation and identities in the short stories of “Nouvelles Vertes” anthology. This study used qualitative method with descriptive approaches. The data of this study are the clauses which shows the characters’ representation and identities in the short stories of “Nouvelles Vertes” anthology. The data are collected by scrutinizing and note-taking the clauses which shows the characters’ representation and identities in the short stories of “Nouvelles Vertes” anthology. The data analysis is carried out using the theory of transitivity in Systemic Functional Linguistics of Halliday and the theory of characterization techniques of Nurgiyantoro.

This study finds that transitivity processes used to show the characters’ representation and identities in the short stories of “Nouvelles Vertes” anthology are material, mental, behavioral, relational, and verbal process. Apart from that, this research also shows that each character depiction technique can be represented by a different transitivity process based on the transitivity process dominantly used. Furthermore, the linguistic factors which affect the use of transitivity processes and character depiction techniques are tenses and modes of verbs expressing processes, Participant form, and vocabulary selection. Apart from that, there are also non-linguistic factors, i.e., storytelling technique and the factor of story’s author.
