Hubungan Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) Terhadap Self Confidence Mahasiswa Pengguna Instagram

Background: Fear of Missing Out is a sense of anxiety and fear of missing out on other people's precious moments and the latest trends that cause a person to follow what is seen from others and the desire to always be connected to social media. Recently, fear of missing out is often found in college students. FOMO can make someone experience the fear of being left behind something that is trending and causes someone to follow others, it can reduce one's self-confidence.
Objective: This study aimed to measure the relationship between Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) and Self Confidence in health students who use instagram at Gadjah Mada University.
Methods: This study was a quantitative correlation analytic study with a cross sectional design. This research was conducted from May 27 to June 2, 2024 at the Faculty of Public Health Medicine and Nursing, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada involving 58 students of class 2020 using purposive sampling technique. The research instruments used Przybylski's Fear of Missing Out questionnaire and Lauster's Self Confidence Scale. Data were analyzed with the Pearson Product Moment correlation test.
Results: The majority of respondents (91,38%) had a low level of FOMO (mean value 31.33±4.875 less than the theoritical mean value 37.5) and a high level of self-confidence (mean value 68.10±5.476 more than the theoritical mean value 55). Fear of Missing Out was negatively correlated with Self Confidence with a correlation coefficient of -0.379 (p=0.003).
Conslusion: There is a negative relationship with a weak correlation strength between Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) and Self Confidence in health students who use instagram at Gadjah Mada University.
