Realitas dan representasi dalam fotografi menurut perspektif filsafat Martin Heidegger

Penelitian ini berjudul “Realitas dan Representasi dalam Fotografi Menurut Fenomenologi Martin Heidegger.” Penelitan ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rasa penasaran peneliti untuk mengeksplorasi secara filosofis pertanyaan “mengapa seseorang memotret?” Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui konsep-konsep gambar fotografis dan menganalisis konsep tersebut dalam fenomenelogi Martin Heidegger. Penelitian ini mengkaji konsep fotografi dari perspekftif Fenmenologi Martin Heidegger. Penelitian ini berangkat dari asumsi peneliti bahwa perdebatan filosofis terhadap fotografi masih berpusat pada problematika antara realitas dan representasi, yaitu foto sebagai representasi dari realitas akan selalu dipertanyakan objektivitas dan referensialitasnya.

Penelitian ini merupakan studi kepustaakan dengan sumber data primer dari karya Andre Bazin (The Ontology of the Photographic Image), Roland Barthes (Camera Lucida), Susan Sontag (On Photography), dan Vilem Flusser (Toward a Philosophy of Photography). Objek material adalah konsep-konsep fotografi Andre Bazin, Susan Sontag, Roland Barthes, dan Villem Flusser, sedangkan objek formalnya adalah fenomenologi Martin Heidegger. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan model rekonstruksi-rasional mengenai konsep. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah hermeneutik-filosofis dengan fenomenologi Martin Heidegger sebagai acuannya, dengan unsur analisa metodis interpretasi, verstehen, hermeneutika dan deskripsi.

Hasil penelitian ini menghasilkan analisis konsep fotografi sebagai berikut; (1) Fotograf selalu diambil melalui semua aspek yang telah diantisipasi sebelumnya, (2) Fotograf adalah memorial (representasi kronologis), bukan sejarah (kronologi peritiwa), (3) Fotograf ada untuk dibagikan sebagai ‘memoria’, bukan hanya untuk orang lain, tapi terpenting untuk dibagikan ke diri sendiri.

This research is titled “Reality and Representation in Photography According to Martin Heidegger's Phenomenology.” The study is motivated by the researcher's curiosity to philosophically explore the question, “why does someone photograph?” The aim of this research is to understand the concepts of photographic images and analyze these concepts within the framework of Martin Heidegger's phenomenology. This research examines photography concepts from the perspective of Heidegger's phenomenology. The researcher assumes that philosophical debates on photography still revolve around the problematics of reality and representation, where the photograph as a representation of reality is always questioned for its objectivity and referentiality.

 This study is a library research with primary data sources from the works of Andre Bazin (The Ontology of the Photographic Image), Roland Barthes (Camera Lucida), Susan Sontag (On Photography), and Vilém Flusser (Towards a Philosophy of Photography). The material objects are the photography concepts of Andre Bazin, Susan Sontag, Roland Barthes, and Vilém Flusser, while the formal object is Martin Heidegger's phenomenology. This is a qualitative study using a rational reconstruction model of concepts. The method used in this research is hermeneutic-philosophical with Martin Heidegger's phenomenology as the reference, incorporating elements of methodological analysis, interpretation, verstehen, hermeneutics, and description.

The results of this research produce the following conceptual analysis of photography: (1) Photographs are always taken through all aspects that have been anticipated beforehand, (2) Photographs are memorials (chronological representations), not history (chronology of events), (3) Photographs exist to be shared as ‘memoria’, not only with others but importantly to be shared with oneself.
