This research is entitled "A Critical Review of the Baselang nuai Ceremony in Jambi Province in the Perspective of Max Scheler's Hierarchy of Values". The problem raised is about the series of baselang nuai ceremonies in Jambi which have various values and norms that are closely related to various layers of society around it, the problem underlying this research is that there is no longer the implementation of the baselang nuai ceremony carried out by the community in Jambi, so that the community does not much preserve the values and norms contained in it. The material object of this research is the baselang nuai ceremony and the formal object is Max Scheler's Value Hierarchy as a division of values from prioritized values to values that are only complementary or entertainment in society. The value hierarchy views that value is an objective quality whose existence does not depend on the object or objects that exist. The purpose of this research is to analyze the values and norms in the baselang nuai ceremony according to Max Scheler's Hierarchy of Values.
This research uses a literature study supported by various books, journals, articles, and theses regarding the baselang nuai ceremony and Max Scheler's Hierarchy of Values. This research begins with preparation, data search, classification, analysis, and critical evaluation. The philosophical method used in this research is the philosophical hermeneutic method that emphasizes the method of interpretation. The methodical elements used are description, interpretation, heuristics, and critical reflection.
The final result desired by the researcher is the values in the baselang nuai ceremony which are grouped into four levels of Max Scheler's value hierarchy. The values in the baselang nuai ceremony from the lowest value to the highest value are pleasure value (dancing, chanting, and singing), vital value (the activity of greeting rice by the owner of the rice field), spiritual value (mutual cooperation, closeness in the family, and harmony in the community), religious value (joint prayer, thanksgiving, and distribution of rice ibat ulu tahun). Baselang nuai ceremony activities are carried out in groups in a series of ceremonies that last for approximately seven days. Starting from the implementation of harvesting to eat together carried out by the owner of the rice field, harvesting carried out by community groups that have been invited by the owner of the rice field, entertainment, thanksgiving, and distribution of provisions in the form of rice that has been wrapped in leaves and filled with dry side dishes.
