EKSISTENSI BOUSOUZOKU SEBAGAI SUBKULTUR JEPANG

Bousouzoku merupakan subkultur Jepang yang terbentuk progresif pada tahun 1980-an. Bousouzoku berjalan progresif dan dinamis dikarenakan memiliki identitas, ciri khas, serta konsep sosial yang unik sehingga dapat menarik minat remaja Jepang saat itu. Eksistensi identitas, ciri khas, serta konsep sosial bousouzoku sampai sekarang masih ada dan dapat kita jumpai hingga sekarang. Walaupun bousouzoku dianggap ada saat ini, tetapi hanya wujud budaya saja yang masih eksis, tidak dengan anggota serta keberlangsungan kegiatan mereka, sehingga pada saat ini bousouzoku dianggap sebagai budaya populer Jepang.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan eksistensi bousouzoku yang masih ada dan bagaimana mereka tetap bertahan hingga saat ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kepustakaan atau literature research dengan data yang diperoleh dari buku, jurnal, maupun beberapa video serta film dokumenter. Selain menggunakan pendekatan studi kepustakaan, penulis juga membuat angket testimonial dengan sampel 5 orang untuk memperkuat data. Penelitian ini diteliti dengan menggunakan konsep eksistensi serta teori Subkultur Brake.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keberadaan atau eksistensi bousouzoku ternyata masih dapat dijumpai di Jepang maupun di luar Jepang. Selain itu, bousouzoku saat ini telah dianggap sebagai budaya populer (pop culture) dengan adanya perwujudan identitas mereka seperti gaya rambut, gaya berpakaian, serta gaya modifikasi motor yang unik. Konotasi bousouzoku juga ternyata bergeser yang tadinya selalu bermakna negatif, menjadi sebuah budaya populer yang digemari pemuda Jepang, maupun mancanegara.

ABSTRACT

THE EXISTENCE OF BOUSOUZOKU AS A JAPAN’S SUBCULTURE

Bousouzoku is a Japanese subculture that formed progressively in the 1980s. Bousouzoku is progressive and dynamic because it has a unique identity, characteristics, and social concepts that can attract Japanese teenagers at that time. The existence of bousouzoku's identity, characteristics, and social concepts still exist and can be found until now. Although bousouzoku is considered to exist today, only the form of culture still exists, not the members and the continuity of their activities, so at this time bousouzoku is considered Japanese popular culture.

This research aims to investigate the existence of bousouzoku and how they have managed to persist until the present day. Employing a qualitative methodology, this study utilizes a literature review approach, drawing data from books, journals, as well as several videos and documentary films. In addition to the literature review approach, the researcher also conducted a small-scale testimonial questionnaire to strengthen the data. This research is examined through the lens of the concepts of existence and the Subculture Brake theory.

This study examines the persistence of bousouzoku, a Japanese subculture, both within Japan and internationally. Furthermore, it investigates how bousouzoku has evolved into a form of popular culture, characterized by distinctive identity expressions such as hairstyles, fashion, and unique motorcycle modifications. The research findings indicate a shift in the connotations of bousouzoku from its traditionally negative associations to being embraced as a popular culture phenomenon by Japanese youth and beyond.
