Background: Work
stress in nurses can be caused by various factors, including high workloads,
increasing numbers of patients, and critical patient conditions so that special
attention and good governance are needed to prevent a decrease in nurse
productivity. A heavy workload over a long period of time can cause both
physical and mental health problems, triggering responses in the work
environment in the form of anxiety, fear, and stress. Changes in interpersonal
relationships can also affect stress levels that cause responses that require
adaptation. ICU nurses have a different role from nurses in other units because
they must have special competencies in caring for patients who tend to
fluctuate accompanied by time demands and high workloads that can be a source
of stress. In this condition, social support from the work environment and
family is very important to help reduce the level of stress experienced by ICU
nurses.
Research
Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between mental
workload, social support, and interpersonal conflict with work stress in ICU
nurses at UGM Academic Hospital.
Research
Methods: This research is a type of quantitative research with a
cross-sectional study design. The research sample amounted to 60 people using
simple random sampling technique.
Results: Based
on the results of the chi-square test analysis, it shows that there is a
statistically significant relationship between mental workload (p = 0,003) and
social support (p = 0,001) with work stress in ICU nurses. The results of the
logistic regression test show that social support and mental workload
dominantly have an influence on work stress with a Pseudo R2 value
in the final model of 0.3080 so it can be concluded that social support and
mental workload have an effect of 30.80% on the incidence of work stress in ICU
nurses.
Conclusion: There is a statistically significant
relationship between mental workload and social support with job stress in ICU
nurses, but there is no relationship between interpersonal conflict and job
stress in ICU nurses at UGM Academic Hospital.
