ABSTRACT
The Effect of Nutrition Education About Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF)) Through Whatsapp Groups on Knowledge and Practices of Mothers with Children Aged 6-23 Months in the Work Area of the Puskesmas Bumiratu, Pringsewu Regency, Lampung Province
Background: The direct cause of nutritional problems in toddlers is inadequate food intake related to, among other things, inappropriate feeding practices, such as giving MP-ASI too early, portions and textures that are not suitable for the child's age, selection of food ingredients that are less varied , ignorance and/or inability to prepare appropriate MP-ASI, meet nutritional needs, and be hygienic. WhatsApp is the familiar application most frequently used and with the longest duration of time by smartphone users. The WhatsApp application as a social media has enormous opportunities to be used in implementing the IYCF program to increase IYCF knowledge and practices for mothers with toddlers more easily, cheaply, and effectively.
Objective: The general objective of this study was to determine the Effect of Nutrition Education on Feeding Infants and Children (IYCF) through WhatsApp Groups on the Knowledge and Practices of Mothers Toddlers Age 6-23 Months in the Working Area of the Bumiratu Health Center, Pringsewu District, Lampung Province.
Methods: The type of research used is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental research design with one group before and after treatment (one group pre-post test) without a control group. The research subjects were 50 mothers who had toddlers aged 6-23 months. Pre-test and post-test structured questionnaire interviews and anthropometric measurements of toddlers were carried out. The intervention was in the form of nutrition education using the WhatsApp group.
Results: There is a significant difference in the average value of knowledge before and after the Nutrition Education Intervention on Infant and Child Feeding (IYCF) through the WhatsApp Group (p-value <0>0.05).
Conclusion: Education through WhatsApp can increase the knowledge of mothers of toddlers aged 6-23 months. IYCF education through WhatsApp has not been able to improve IYCF practices for mothers of toddlers aged 6-23 months.
