Acara 90 Day Fiance adalah acara realitas Amerika yang mengikuti
kehidupan beberapa pasangan lintas budaya dikarenakan mereka berbeda negara
asal, apabila dalam kasus ini, Nicole sebagai warga negara AS (Amerika Serikat)
dan Azan sebagai bukan warga negara AS, disaat mereka berupaya mencapai
proses visa K-1 Amerika. Acara 90 Day Fiance dapat digunakan sebagai bukti
untuk belajar tentang masyarakat dan budaya. Dapat kita lihat bahwa pemirsa 90
Day Fiance mengonsumsi berbagai informasi, salah satunya mengonsumsi
gagasan keragaman budaya, sebagai hasil dari bukti bahwa mereka memposting
komentar untuk menyampaikan reaksi mereka setelah menonton acara realitas
tersebut.
Kajian ini mencari bukti tentang asumsi pemirsa dengan memberikan
informasi lebih mendalam tentang dampak yang diterima oleh para pemirsa
setelah menonton acara 90 Day Fiance. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk
memberikan analisis terhadap adegan serial tersebut dan komentar pemirsa yang
memuat topik keragaman budaya pada kolom komentar di saluran YouTube-nya
acara 90 Day Fiance. Kemudian, menggunakan pendekatan Rosenau (1991) untuk
menginterpretasikan adegan serial dan komentar-komentar tersebut. Penelitian ini
menggunakan penelitian kualitatif menurut Yin (2009), bersama menggunakan
studi kasus dipilih untuk fokus pada perencanaan dan implementasi penelitian.
Tampaknya keragaman budaya yang digambarkan dalam program acara
90 Day Fiance dimaksudkan untuk menjadi sub-genre fiksi alternatif yang
diprediksi akan digemari oleh banyak kalangan. Alhasil, dikarenakan pada
kenyataannya publik menginginkan skenario-skenario tersebut, skenario-skenario
alur cerita yang digemari oleh kebanyakan orang semakin berkembang di dalam
siaran televisi. Dengan kata lain, adegan dan semua hal- hal yang ada di dalam
acara televisi kemungkinan besarnya dibuat sesuai dengan preferensi pemirsa.
Oleh karena itu, ada kemungkinan selera pemirsa dapat ditentukan oleh produser
acara, salah satu caranya dapat melalui pemeriksaan atas komentar mereka
terhadap Nicole dan Azan (serta peserta lain dalam program tersebut). Penjelasan
tersebut menunjukkan bahwa ada dua sudut pandang yang berlawanan di kalangan
pemirsa dalam kasus ini. Pertama, penonton memberikan komentar sekaligus
mengangkat topik keragaman budaya dari acara 90 Day Fiance sebagai hasil
pemikiran kritis mereka. Terakhir, penonton yang memberikan komentar tanpa
mengungkit masalah sama sekali karena mereka hanya memandang acara tersebut
sebagai hiburan.
90 Day Fiance is an American reality show that follows the lives of
several cross-cultural couples because the couples have different countries of
origin. If in this case, the highlighted couple is Nicole as a US citizen (United
States) and Azan as a Moroccan citizen (not a US citizen), when they are trying to
achieve the American K-1 visa process so that Azan can live with Nicole in
America. The 90 Day Fiance phenomenons can be used as evidence to learn about
society and culture. It can be seen that 90 Day Fiance viewers consume various
information. One of them is that they may consume the idea of cultural diversity,
as a result of the fact that they post comments to convey their reactions after
watching that reality show.
This study seeks proof of viewers' assumptions by providing more in-
depth information about the impact received by viewers after watching the 90 Day
Fiance reality show. This studys purpose is to provide an analysis of the serials
scenes and viewers comments containing cultural diversity topics on the 90 Day
Fiance YouTube Channels comment section. Then, using Rosenau s (1991)
approach to interpret the serial’s scenes and those comments. This study
conducted qualitative research by Yin (2009), together using a case study was
chosen to focus on research planning and implementation.
It seems that the cultural diversity depicted on 90 Day Fiance is meant to
be a well-liked sub-genre of alternative literature. Since the audience desires those
scenarios, there are several examples of events in the created plot scenarios. To
put it another way, the scenes and everything else in the show might have been
made up to appeal to the tastes of the viewers. Therefore, there is a chance that
viewers' tastes could be determined by the show producer, one of the way can be
through an examination of their comments on Nicole and Azan (as well as the
other participants in the program). These explanations indicate that there are two
opposing viewpoints among viewers in this case. First, those who gave comments
about 90 Day Fiance while also bringing up the subject of cultural diversity as a
result of their critical thoughts. Lastly, those who do so without bringing up the
subject at all because they only view the show as entertainment.
