Representasi Ibu Tunggal dalam Variety Show (Analisis Isi pada Variety Show The Return of Superman)

Ibu tunggal, terutama yang tidak menikah, selalu berjuang menghadapi stereotip yang buruk dalam masyarakat patriarkis. Berbagai macam isu gender memunculkan upaya-upaya yang berbeda untuk meminimalisir masalah tersebut, salah satunya melalui media hiburan. The Return of Superman merupakan variety show asal Korea Selatan yang berfokus pada pengasuhan anak oleh beberapa ayah selebriti. Namun, sejak tahun 2021, The Return of Superman melakukan inovasi baru dengan menampilkan seorang ibu tunggal yang memilih untuk tidak menikah dan melakukan donor sperma untuk mendapatkan anak yaitu Sayuri Fujita. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan representasi ibu tunggal yang ditampilkan oleh The Return of Superman melalui penampilan Sayuri beserta anaknya, Zen. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis kualitatif dengan pisau analisis Teori Kode Televisi John Fiske, yang terdiri dari level realitas dan representasi. Dengan metode tersebut, peneliti menemukan bahwa The Return of Superman menggunakan format variety-reality show sehingga menampilkan Sayuri secara faktual sesuai kesehariannya sebagai seorang ibu tunggal yang kompeten di berbagai domain yang ia tempati. Hal tersebut memperlihatkan bahwa representasi ibu tunggal yang ditampilkan oleh The Return of Superman menentang stereotip ibu tunggal sebagai seseorang yang bersifat negatif, memiliki kemampuan mengasuh anak yang buruk, dan tingkat pendidikan yang rendah dengan pekerjaan yang tidak stabil.

Single mothers, especially unwed single mothers, have always struggled with negative stereotypes in a patriarchal society. Various gender issues give rise to different efforts to minimize these problems, and one is solved through entertainment. The Return of Superman is a variety show from South Korea that focuses on the parenting of several celebrity fathers. However, since 2021, The Return of Superman has made a breakthrough by featuring an unwed single mother who gave birth through sperm donation, Sayuri Fujita. This study aims to describe the representation of a single mother shown in The Return of Superman through the appearance of Sayuri and her son, Zen. This study uses a qualitative content analysis method with John Fiske's Television Code Theory, which consists of levels of reality and representation. With this method, the researcher found that The Return of Superman uses a variety-reality show format to present Sayuri according to her daily life as a single mother who is competent in her various domains. The representation of single mothers presented in The Return of Superman counters the stereotypes of single mothers as being unfavorable, having poor parenting skills, and having a low education level with an unstable job.
