Disimpulkan bahwa ketiga novel mengonfirmasi lima tahapan Separation; semua tahap Initiation kecuali Woman as the Temptress, Atonement with the Father, dan Apotheosis; serta keenam tahapan Return.
Coraline, The Graveyard Book, and Fortunately, the Milk are children's adventure books that revolve around the journey of their respective heroes, namely Coraline, Bod, and the dad. This paper aims to find out how the hero's journey confirms or negates Campbell's monomyth. For the analysis, this paper applies Campbell's monomyth/hero's journey theory. It is found that the hero's journey is still apparent in the stories, although not without varying degrees of differences. The discussion concludes that the three novels confirm the five stages of Separation; all Initiation stages except for Woman as the Temptress, Atonement with the Father, and Apotheosis; and the six stages of Return. Some stages are reordered, revised, fused, or bypassed entirely. It is also revealed that the hero's journey does not take into account the case where the supporting characters' actions are the ones that contribute to advancing the hero's adventure. Alterations in the hero's journey are inevitable due to the differences in the type of stories perused by Campbell and the fact that stories are laden with their own cultures, times, and narrative forms.
