2022 | Skripsi | S1 SASTRA INGGRISThis research explores the representation of the monomyth in the protagonist of Dune, Paul Atreides, as well as describing the qualities of the tragic hero that he exhibits. This research is conducted by employing Joseph Campbell's theory of hero's journey as well as the Aristotelian concept of the tragic hero. It aims to investigate the stages of the monomyth that the protagonist experiences in addition to his tragic hero qualities. The data used in this research are taken from Paul Herbert's Dune in the form of excerpts containing characters, and events, and other information related to Paul Atreides' heroism. The data are then sorted based on the proposed research questions and analyzed to find out the extent of the monomyth's representation in Paul, as well as the impact of Paul's hamartia, peripeteia, and anagnorisis in making him the tragic hero. This research figures out that Paul Atreides closely follows the monomythic pattern and experiences moments of hamartia, peripeteia, and anagnorisis that results in his tragic heroism.
