Popularisasi Queer dalam Novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo: Kajian Psikoanalisis Lacan

Popularitas fiksi queer memanifestasikan suatu kontradiksi mengenai isu-isu minoritas di dalam perkembangan budaya populer yang dinamis. Di satu sisi, isu kemarginalan kelompok LGBT menawarkan narasi kompleks, namun di sisi lain fiksi populer berorientasi pada esensi kepraktisan lewat ketentuan formulaiknya. Hal ini kemudian menimbulkan pertanyaan penting mengenai ketentuan-ketentuan yang dapat menjadikan isu-isu krusial queer bisa ditransformasikan sebagai bentuk hiburan dan eskapisme pembaca populer. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi ketentuan penggunaan formula roman queer yang ditemukan di dalam fiksi The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Tujuan lain dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan fungsionalitas formula-formula yang ditemukan di dalam fiksi tersebut sebagai faktor pemenuhan hasrat dan pelacakan lack yang dimiliki oleh pembaca. Proses analisis penelitian ini mengimplementasikan analisis formula untuk mengidentifikasi konvensi dan invensi yang ditemukan di dalam fiksi queer The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Hasrat dan lack pembaca dielaborasi dengan menggunakan pendekatan psikoanalisis Lacan yang mengkaji kumpulan komentar di laman Goodreads. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa fiksi TSHEH dikategorikan sebagai fiksi roman queer dengan beberapa ketentuan konvensi formula dan perubahannya. Ketentuan tersebut merujuk pada dualitas karakterisasi heroine yang aplikatif terhadap tatanan hetero-homonormatif, dominasi hero dan submisivitas heroine, serta penggunaan narasi coming out yang sederhana. Selanjutnya, faktor-faktor yang berkontribusi dalam pemenuhan hasrat dan temuan lack di dalam diri pembaca queer dan straight TSHEH menyoal tentang: karakterisasi heroine alpha, kehadiran hero yang ideal kebebasan mutlak lewat narasi coming out dan toleransinya, serta aliansi kelompok minoritas biseksual dan gay.

The popularity of queer fiction manifests a distinct contradiction regarding minority issues towards the dynamic development of popular culture. On the one hand, the issue of the marginalization of the LGBT community offers a complex narrative, meanwhile, popular fiction is perpetually oriented to implement the essence of practicality through its formulaic conventions. This, then, raises important questions about what allows crucial queer issues able to be transformed into forms of entertainment and popular reader escapism. This study aims to explore the conventions of the romance queer formula and its justifications found in the TSHEH. Another objective of this study is to describe the functionality of the formulas found in the fiction in the process of fulfilling desires and generating lacks of the readers. The analysis process of this research implements formula analysis to identify conventions and inventions found in TSHEH. Readers' desires and lacks projected in some designated comments written on the Goodreads are elaborated using the Lacan psychoanalytic approach. The results of this study find that TSHEH implements several formula conventions. These conventions refer to the duality of heroine characterization which is applicable to hetero-homonormative orders, domination of hero, and heroine submissiveness, as well as the use of less tragic coming-out narratives. Furthermore, the factors that contribute to the fulfillment of desires and the finding of lack in queer and straight readers of TSHEH question the following concepts: the characterization of the alpha heroine, the presence of an ideal hero, absolute freedom through the narrative of coming out and its tolerance, as well as the alliance of bisexual and gay minority groups.
