LATAR DALAM NOVEL SUNYI DI DADA SUMIRAH KARYA ARTIE AHMAD

Penelitian ini menggunakan objek material yakni novel dengan judul Sunyi di Dada Sumirah karya Artie Ahmad dan objek formal berupa kajian latar. Novel Sunyi di Dada Sumirah dipilih sebagai objek material karena novel tersebut menampilkan kekayaan unsur-unsur latar melalui tiga periode waktu yang berbeda di dalamnya. Unsur-unsur tersebut saling terhubung dan memiliki pengaruh satu sama lain termasuk dalam hubungannya dengan unsur pembangun novel lainnya sehingga dapat memilki fungsi tertentu. Permasalahan utama dalam penelitian ini adalah latar dalam novel Sunyi di Dada Sumirah karya Artie Ahmad yang meliputi unsur latar, hubungan antarunsur latar dan hubungan antarunsur novel, serta fungsi latar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metodedeskriptif kualitatif dengan menguraikan data-data yang diperoleh melalui studi pustaka ke dalam bentuk kata-kata untuk kemudian dirangkum menjadi sebuah kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa unsur latar pada novel Sunyi di Dada Sumirah karya Artie Ahmad terdiri atas lingkungan peristiwa, latar belakang terlihat, waktu dalam sehari atau setahun, cuaca atau iklim, periode sejarah, dan orang-orang yang melatarbelakangi. Unsur-unsur latar dalam novel saling berkaitan satu sama lain. Selain itu, unsur latar dala novel juga berhubungan dengan unsur lain novel, seperti tokoh, serta alur sehingga membentuk kesatuan cerita dan memunculkan tema dalam novel Sunyi di Dada Sumirah karya Artie Ahmad yakni Ketidakadilan: Stigma turun-menurun bagi tahanan peristiwa sejarah tahun 1965. Selain itu, latar dalam novel memiliki fungsi sebagai metafora, sebagai atmosfer, dan sebagai kritik sosial.

This research used a novel entitled Sunyi di Dada Sumirah written by Artie Ahmad as a material object and the theory of setting as a formal object. Novel Sunyi di Dada Sumirah was choosen as the material object because the novel displays a wealth of background elements through three different time periods. These elements are interconnected and have an influence on each other so that they can have certain functions. The main problem in this research was the setting in novel Sunyi di Dada Sumirah written by Artie Ahmad which includes the elements of setting, the relationship between the elements of the setting and the relationship between the elements of the novel, as well as the function of the setting. This research uses descriptive qualitative method by describing the data collected through literature study into words and then summarized into a conclusion. The result show that the setting elements in the novel Sunyi di Dada Sumirah written by Artei Ahmad consist of the background of the event, the visible background,, the time of the day or year, the climate, the historical period, and the people in the background. The elements of the setting in the novel are related to each other. In addition, the background elements in the novel are also related to other elements of the novel, such as character, and plots therefore forming a complete story and show the theme of novel Sunyi di Dada Sumirah written by Artie Ahmad, namely Injustice: Hereditary stigma for prisoners of historical event 1965. In addition, the setting of the novel also has several function as a metaphor, as an atmosphere, and as a social criticism.
