Webtoon The Secret of Angel dan Drama True Beauty: Kajian Ekranisasi

Penelitian ini meneliti tentang proses ekranisasi dari webtoon The Secret of Angel tahun 2018 menjadi drama True Beauty karya sutradara Kim Sang Hyeob pada tahun 2020. Sebelum mengetahui proses ekranisasi, terlebih dahulu dipaparkan struktur webtoon The Secret of Angel dan drama True Beauty melalui teori struktural Robert Stanton (1965) untuk mengetahui persamaan dan perbedaan dari tokoh, karakter dan alur. Teori Eneste (1991) tentang ekranisasi selanjutnya digunakan untuk menunjukkan proses adaptasi dari webtoon The Secret of Angel ke dalam drama True Beauty. Penelitian ini menggunakan potongan gambar dan dialog yang menunjukkan karakter dan alur dari webtoon The Secret of Angel dan drama True Beauty yang selanjutnya diterjemahkan oleh penulis. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa drama True Beauty memiliki banyak perubahan struktur dari webtoon The Secret of Angel akibat proses ekranisasi. Ekranisasi melalui tiga proses adaptasi yaitu penciutan, penambahan, dan perubahan variasi. Pada proses penciutan terjadi penghilangan tokoh Kim Jin Su. Pada proses penambahan tokoh ayah Im Ju Gyeong memiliki nama Im Jae Pil beserta karakter. Pada proses perubahan variasi terjadi banyak perubahan pada tokoh, karakter, dan alur. Perubahan variasi tokoh Kang Su Jin yang pada awal cerita diceritakan berteman dengan Im Ju Gyeong, berbeda dari webtoon. Perubahan variasi alur terjadi karena alur cerita pada drama lebih mengutamakan kisah masa sekolah menengah atas. Pada penelitian ini penulis mengutamakan tokoh utama Im Ju Gyeong.

This research examines the ecranisation process of a webtoon series, The Secret of Angel, in 2018. In 2020, the series was adapted into a drama, True Beauty, by director Kim Sang Hyeob. Before diving into the ecranisation process, this paper discusses the structure of the The Secret of Angel and True Beauty structural theory (1965) to recognize the similarities and differences between character, characterization, and plot. Then, Eneste's theory (1991) about ecranisation is used to show the adaptation process from the webtoon series The Secret of Angel to the drama True Beauty. This research exerted pictures and dialogues taken from The Secret of Angel and True Beauty that have been translated by the writer of this paper. The result of the analysis indicates that True Beauty have many changes of structure from The Secret of Angel because of the ecranisation process. Ecranisation has to pass three adaptation processes, which are reduction, addition, and variation change. Regarding the reduction process, the character Kim Jin Su was omitted. Regarding the addition process, the character of Im Ju Gyeong's father, Im Jae Pil, was added in the drama. Regarding the variation change process, there are many changes of characters, characterizations, and plots. The variation change is that the character Kang Su Jin, who were friends with Im Ju Gyeong at the beginning, is different from the webtoon series. The variety change of plot happened because the drama plot focuses on the story of high school era.
