MASKULINITAS DUA TOKOH UTAMA DALAM DRAMA KOREA PRISON PLAYBOOK

Drama Korea ini memiliki keunikan berupa latar kisah yang mayoritas berada di pusat tahanan. Hal ini membuat kedua tokoh utama laki-laki, Kim Jae-hyeok dan Lee Jun-ho, memperlihatkan sisi maskulin yang cukup dominan dalam drama Korea. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori maskulinitas Janet Saltzman Chafetz (1978) untuk mengidentifikasi tujuh area maskulinitas tradisional apa saja yang ditampilkan kedua tokoh dengan menganalisis data kualitatif dalam bentuk narasi adegan-adegan dan dialog-dialog dalam drama Korea. Tujuh area maskulinitas tradisional menurut Chafetz berupa (1) penampilan fisik, (2) fungsional, (3) agresif secara seksual, (4) emosional, (5) intelektual, (6) intrapersonal, dan (7) kepribadian lain. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tokoh utama Jae-hyeok dan Jun-ho sama-sama memiliki lima dari tujuh area maskulinitas tradisional dan sama-sama tidak memenuhi kriteria area maskulinitas tradisional (2) fungsional. Selain area fungsional, karakter Jae-hyeok menunjukkan tidak memenuhi kriteria area maskulinitas (3) agresif secara seksual sedangkan karakter Jun-ho tidak memenuhi kriteria area maskulinitas (4) emosional.
This study discusses the masculine side of the two main characters of the Korean Drama Prison Playbook which aired in 2017, directed by Shin Won-ho which was produced by Netflix and aired on the tvN channel. This drama is unique in that most of the story is in the detention center and the minimum number of female characters appears in the drama. This makes the two main male characters, Kim Jae-hyeok and Lee Jun-ho, show a masculine side that is quite dominant in the drama. This study uses Janet Saltzman Chafetz's theory of masculinity (1978) to identify seven areas of traditional masculinity displayed by the two characters by analyzing the qualitative data in the form of narrative scenes and dialogues in the drama. Seven areas of traditional masculinity according to Chafetz are (1) physical appearance, (2) functional, (3) sexually aggressive, (4) emotional, (5) intellectual, (6) intrapersonal, and (7) other personalities. The results of the analysis show that the main characters Jae-hyeok and Jun-ho both have five of the seven areas of traditional masculinity, and both do not meet the criteria for areas of (2 functional traditional masculinity. Jae-hyeok's character shows that he does not fulfill the criteria for the masculinity area of (3)sexually aggressive while Jun-ho's character does not meets the criteria for masculinity areas of (4) emotional.
