Produksi Tindak Tutur Direktif Bahasa Inggris oleh Mahasiswa Indonesia

Penelitian ini membahas tentang tindak tutur direktif bahasa Inggris yang diproduksi oleh mahasiswa Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk tuturan direktif bahasa Inggris yang diproduksi oleh mahasiswa Indonesia, mendeskripsikan kesesuaian bentuk tuturan tersebut dengan target tuturan dalam bahasa Inggris berdasarkan situasi yang ada, serta mengungkap faktor-faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi kesesuaian tersebut. Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan teori tindak tutur oleh Austin (1962) dan Searle (1969) dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa kalimat direktif bahasa Inggris yang diproduksi oleh mahasiswa Indonesia yang diperoleh melalui Discourse Completion Test (DCT) secara daring. Data yang teridentifikasi diklasifikasikan dan dilihat kesesuaiannya dengan target tuturan untuk mencermati keterkaitannya dengan faktor-faktor yang secara teori dapat mempengaruhi kompetensi pragmatik penutur non-asli. Hasil dari penelitian ini menjawab ketiga rumusan masalah. Pertama, ditemukan penggunaan semua strategi direktif pada ketiga tingkat kelangsungan, yakni tingkat langsung, tidak langsung secara konvensional, dan tidak langsung serta modifikasi yang tersebar dalam berbagai situasi. Kedua, masih banyak bentuk tuturan oleh mahasiswa yang belum memenuhi target tuturan dalam bahasa Inggris dan sekadar bersifat berterima. Ketiga, ketidaksesuaian pemilihan bentuk dan modifikasi tuturan direktif dapat disebabkan oleh berbagai faktor seperti pengaruh dari bahasa dan budaya pertama mahasiswa, generalisasi pragmatik secara berlebihan, dan input yang diperoleh mahasiswa.

This research discusses English directives produced by Indonesian undergraduate students. This research aims to describe the English directive forms by Indonesian undergraduate students, describe their suitability with the speech target based on the existing situations, and also reveal the factors influencing the suitability. This research is conducted based on the theory of speech act by Austin (1962) and Searle (1969) by using descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research are sentences of English directives produced by Indonesian undergraduate students obtained online by Discourse Completion Test (DCT). The identified data are classified and observed its suitability with the English speech target to relate it with the factors which are theoretically believed to affect the pragmatic competence of the non-native speakers. The results of this research answer the three research problems. First, it was found that all strategies in three levels of directness, namely the direct level, conventionally indirect level, as well as indirect level and also all kinds of modification were used by the students spread in various situations. Second, there were still many of the directive forms used by the students which did not meet the most appropriate speech target for the described situations even though they were still acceptable. Third, the unsuitability of the choices was potentially caused by various factors including the influence of their first language and culture, pragmatic over-generalisation, and input obtained by the students.
