Keberadaan Dalem Kabupaten di wilayah pesisir utara Jawa dapat ditengarai bersama alun-alun dan masjid sebagai komponen pembentuk ruang pusat kota tradisional Jawa. Kompleks bangunan ini merupakan tempat tinggal bagi para bupati. Dalem Kabupaten merupakan kompleks bangunan yang terdiri dari berbagai komponen yang merepresentasikan rumah-rumah priyayi Jawa. Jarangnya data atau referensi arsitektur pada Dalem Kabupaten merupakan salah satu hal yang melatarbelakangi penelitian ini selain pada upaya untuk mengungkap karakter arsitektur Dalem Kabupaten itu sendiri. Penelitian ini membahas mengenai karakter arsitektur Dalem Kabupaten yang dihubungkan dengan konteks kota pesisir. Karakter arsitektur Dalem Kabupaten dalam penelitian ini ditinjau melalui sistem spasial, sistem fisik, dan sistem bentuk/stilistik untuk melihat ciri khas arsitektur Dalem Kabupaten. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan penalaran induktif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini diperoleh beberapa kesimpulan mengenai karakter arsitektur Dalem Kabupaten yaitu bahwa Dalem Kabupaten merupakan bagian dari struktur pembentuk ruang pusat kota Jawa serta memiliki komponen utama berupa pendopo, pringgitan, dan dalem yang juga dilengkapi dengan gandok. Karakter arsitektur ini juga memiliki hubungan dengan konteks kota pesisir yang dapat dilihat melalui orientasi yang menghadap terbuka ke arah laut sebagai identitas kota perdagangan, penggunaan langgam tradisional Jawa pada pendopo dan pringgitan sebagai bentuk aktualisasi bupati sebagai seorang priyayi Jawa serta langgam Indische Empire Style sebagai pengaruh hubungan politik antara kolonial dengan pemerintah tradisional. Adanya arsitektur Indische Empire Style ini juga berpengaruh terhadap susunan ruang di dalam bangunan dalem di mana terdapat ruang tengah sebagai galeri yang tidak dijumpai pada rumah-rumah bangsawan di pedalaman.

The existence of the Dalem Kabupaten (Regent's Residence) in the northern coastal area of Java can be seen along with the square and mosque as components of forming the traditional Javanese civic center. Dalem Kabupaten is the residence for the regents that has been exist since the colonial period. Dalem Kabupaten is a building complex consisting of various components that represent Javanese noble's houses. The rarity of data or architectural references in the Dalem Kabupaten is one of the things behind this research in addition to reveal the architectural character of the Dalem Kabupaten itself. This study discusses the architectural character of the Dalem Kabupaten which is related to the context of the coastal city. The architectural character of the Dalem Kabupaten in this study was reviewed through the spatial system, physical system, and stylistic system to see the architectural character of the Dalem Kabupaten. The method used in this research is qualitative with inductive reasoning. Based on the results of this study, several conclusions were obtained regarding the architectural character of the Dalem Kabupaten, namely that the Dalem Kabupaten is part of the structure that forms the Java civic center and has main compounds in the form of a pendopo, pringgitan, and dalem which are also equipped with gandok. This architectural character has also relate with the context of the coastal city which can be seen through the orientation towards the sea as the identity of the trading city, the use of traditional Javanese style in the pendopo and pringgitan as a form of actualization of the regent as a Javanese noble's and the Indische Empire Style style as the influence of the relationship. between colonial and traditional government. The existence of this Indische Empire Style architecture also affects the arrangement of space in the palace building where there is a living room as a gallery which is not found in noble houses in the hinterland.
