Peran Body Image terhadap Self Esteem Remaja Putri Awal

Remaja putri awal yang sedang berada di masa pubertas mengalami perubahan fisik yang dapat memengaruhi body image. Hal ini berdampak terhadap self esteem remaja putri awal. Maka dari itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran body image terhadap self esteem pada remaja putri awal. Alat ukur yang digunakan untuk mengukur variabel body image adalah skala Multidimentional Body Self Relations Questionaire-Appearance (MBSRQ-AS) milik Cash (2002), sedangkan alat untuk mengukur variabel self esteem adalah skala Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (RSES) milik Rosenberg (1969). Subjek penelitian ini adalah remaja putri awal berusia 12-15 tahun sebanyak 163 subjek. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa body image memiliki peranan terhadap self esteem sebesar 24,8 %, sedangkan dimensi body image yang memiliki peran dominam terhadap self esteem adalah dimensi kepuasan terhadap area tubuh dengan sumbangan efektif sebesar 13,6%.

Early female adolescent in puberty experiences physical changes that affects body image. This in turn affects their self esteem. The purpose of this study is therefore to explore the role of body image on self esteem in early adolescent girls. Multidimentional Body Self Relations Questionaire-Appearance (MBSRQ-AS; Cash, 2002) was used to measure body image, while Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (RSES; Rosenberg, 1969) was used to measure self-esteem. Subjects were 163 females in early adolescents aged 12 to 15 years old. The result showed that body image contribution to self esteem was 24.8%. The dominant dimension of body image that contributed to self esteem was satisfaction towards body parts, with effective contribution of 13.6%.
