Subjeksi Dan Performativitas Orang Kombay Sebagai Masyarakat Adat

Tesis ini mengkaji subjeksi dan performativitas orang Kombay sebagai Masyarakat Adat. Pendekatan pertama melalui wacana Konservasi dan Adat yang menyediakan posisi subjek bagi mereka. Subjeksi berlangsung melalui interpelasi yang dilakukan oleh aparatus ideologi konservasi Perkumpulan Silva Papua Lestari (SPL). Orang Kombay menyahutinya oleh karena dua alasan. Pertama, ini merupakan strategi untuk mendapatkan pengakuan dan perlindungan dari negara terhadap hak ulayat mereka. Kedua, Masyarakat Adat adalah imaji diri ideal yang disangka orang Kombay agar bisa kembali kepada karakter original mereka setelah terombang- ambing di tengah pusaran modernitas. Dengan bergerak lebih jauh menggunakan pendekatan etnografi lapangan, hasil riset ini menunjukkan bahwa interpelasi tidak berlangsung dalam kondisi yang subjeksif. Orang Kombay melihat Masyarakat Adat sebagai ruang performativitas untuk menegosiasi identitas mereka sekaligus mendeklarasikan kepentingannya. Mereka masuk ke dalam ruang tersebut, meniru citra diri mereka yang diproyeksikkan oleh tatapan Liyan untuk merekonstruksi identitas esensialis mereka. Dengan kata lain, orang Kombay memanfaatkan romantisme identitas mereka sebagai masyarakat adat dalam tatapan Liyan untuk mencapai kepentingan pragmatis mereka.

This thesis examines the Kombay's subjectivity and performativity as Indigenous Peoples. The first approach is through Conservation and Indigenous discourse that provides them with the position of the subject. Subjection takes place through interpellation conducted by the conservation ideology apparatus of the Papua Lestari Silva Association (SPL). Kombay people respond to it for two reasons. Firstly, this is a strategy to gain recognition and protection from the state of their customary rights. Secondly, Indigenous Peoples are an ideal self-image by means of which the Kombay people imagine they can return to their original character after being tossed around in the vortex of modernity. By moving further using the field ethnographic approach, the results of this research show that interpellation does not take place under condition of strong subjugation. Instead, Kombay people see Indigenous Peoples as a space of performativity in which to negotiate their identities and at the same time declare their interests. They entered the space, imitating their self-image as projected by Other's gaze, in order to recreate their essential identity. In other words, Kombay people take advantage of the romanticism of their identity as indigenous people in the eyes of Other to achieve their pragmatic interests.
