Tugas akhir ini mengkaji tahapan deskripsi arsip Kadipaten Pakualaman pada masa Hindia Belanda, khususnya arsip Paku Alam V (1878-1900). Tujuan penulisan ini adalah untuk mengetahui kondisi arsip, proses deskripsi, sarana prasarana dan kendala yang dihadapi. Tiga metode penelitian yang digunakan, yaitu observasi partisipan, wawancara, dan studi pustaka. Observasi partisipan selama Praktik Kerja Lapangan di Arsip Puro Pakualaman dilakukan dengan mengamati dan ikut serta dalam proses deskripsi arsip. Metode wawancara dilakukan terhadap arsiparis DPAD DIY dan narasumber dari Puro Pakualaman. Terakhir, studi pustaka dilakukan dengan mencari berbagai referensi terkait dengan kajian ini. Dalam Tugas Akhir ini, disimpulkan bahwa kondisi arsip Paku Alam V masih bercampur dengan arsip periode lain. Terkait dengan bahasa dan aksara Jawa yang digunakan pada mayoritas arsip, maka proses deskripsi dimulai per item. Kesulitan bahasa merupakan kendala utama pendeskripsian. Untuk itu, sarana bantu utama adalah kamus Pepak Basa Jawa.

This final paper discuss about the description process of Kadipaten Pakualaman archives during Dutch East Indies period, especially the archives of the Paku Alam V (1878-1900). This study aims to describe the condition of the archives, the archival description process, the facilities, and the obstacle encountered. Three research methods used are participant observation, interviews, and literature study. Participant observation during the internship at Puro Pakualaman Archives was done by observing and participating in the archival description process. The interview method was conducted with DPAD DIY archivists and another staf from Puro Pakualaman. Last, literature study was done by extracting concept from various references related to this study. This study concludes that the condition of Paku Alam V series is still mixed with archives from another period. Relating to the Javanese language and letter that used in most of the archives, the archival description started from the item level. The difficulty in translating the archives become the main obstacle. Therefore, it is advised to use Javanese dictionary to help the description process.
