REALISME MAGIS DAN REMISTIFIKASI NARASI DALAM NOVEL LUCIAN KARYA ISABEL ABEDI

Tesis ini membahas narasi riil dan magis serta mitos mengenai malaikat pendamping di dalam novel Lucian karya Isabel Abedi. Novel ini melibatkan dua lokasi yang berbeda dalam ceritanya yaitu Hamburg dan Los Angeles. Oleh karena itu, dibahas pula mengenai wacana lokasi yang melibatkan agenda remistifikasi narasi di Barat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan karakteristik realisme magis yang berkaitan dengan asumsi studi budaya tradisional dan modern, serta bagaimana latar belakang pengalaman penulis mempengaruhi karyanya melalui teknik penulisan dalam upaya menyuarakan hal-hal yang selama ini ditentang masyarakat Barat. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Wendy B. Faris mengenai lima karakteristik realisme magis yang dikaitkan dengan lokasi dan narasi defokalisasi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif naratif yang diperoleh dari novel dan sumber lain di luar novel. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah dengan membuat klasifikasi data sesuai dengan konsep teoritik mengenai lima karakteristik realisme magis, mencari hubungan antardata, menentukan kadar kemudian dihubungkan dengan lokasi dan dan sejarah serta konteks sosial budaya yang meliputi narasi spiritual dan folklor yang menjadi latar cerita untuk mengetahui alasan penulis menghadirkan cerita yang khas dengan pola tertentu. Terakhir dilihat bagaimana pola tersebut berhubungan dengan teknik narasi dan asumsi studi budaya sebagai agenda remistifikasi narasi di Barat. Novel Lucian karya Isabel Abedi memenuhi lima elemen yang diformulasikan Wendy B. Faris dan masuk dalam novel bergenre realisme magis. Narasi yang dihasilkan menggambarkan banyak hubungan bermasalah antara diri dan orang di sekitarnya khususnya dunia anak dan orangtua sebagai ciri khas karya Isabel Abedi. Secara implisit dapat dikatakan bahwa ada upaya untuk menjungkirbalikkan Eurosentris melalui ide positif mengenai Amerika karena pengarang menonjolkan elemen keraguan pada bagian cerita dengan latar budaya Jerman. Usaha Abedi selaku sastrawan asal Jerman nampaknya belum sepenuhnya berhasil meyakinkan publik bahwa Jerman mampu menerima hal-hal gaib di tengah mayarakatnya yang menjunjung rasionalitas. Ia masih berkeyakinan bahwa Amerika lebih mudah berkompromi dengan dunia ajaib. Walaupun demikian, melalui asumsi budaya dan narasi defokalisasinya novel ini menunjukkan upaya penyembuhan dari sejarah kegagalan dan kesulitan hidup dengan menghadirkan kembali hal-hal supranatural yang dahulu menjadi ciri masyarakat Jerman.

This thesis discusses real and magical narratives and myths about the guardian angels in Isabel Abedi’s novel, Lucian. This novel involves two different locations in the story, namely Hamburg and Los Angeles. So it also discusses the discourse of the location which involves the agenda of narrative remistification in the West. The purpose of this study is to describe and explain the characteristics of magical realism related to the assumptions of traditional and modern cultural studies, and also how the background of the author's experience influences his work through writing techniques in an effort to articulate things that have been opposed by Western society. This research uses the theory of Wendy B. Faris regarding five characteristics of magical realism that are associated with location and narrative defocalisation. The method used in this research was narrative descriptive method obtained from novel and other sources outside the novel. The data analysis technique used is to make data classification in accordance with theoretical concepts about the five characteristics of magical realism, look for relationships between data, then relate to location and and history and socio-cultural context which includes religious narratives and folklore which are the background of the story to find out patterns of novel movements. Last seen how the pattern relates to narrative techniques and the assumption of cultural studies as the agenda of narrative remodification in the West. Lucian's novel by Isabel Abedi fulfills the five elements formulated by Wendy B. Faris and is included in the genre of magical realism. The resulting narration illustrates many problematic relationships between themselves and those around them, especially the world of children and parents as a characteristic of Isabel Abedi's work. Implicitly it can be said that there was an attempt to overturn Eurocentric through a positive idea about America because the author emphasizes the element of doubt in the part of the story with a German cultural setting. The efforts of Abedi as a writer from Germany do not seem to have succeeded fully in convincing the public that Germany is capable of accepting supernatural things in the midst of its people who uphold rationality. He still believes that America is easier to compromise with the magical world. Nonetheless, through the assumption of culture and narrative defokalisasinya this novel shows the healing efforts of the history of failure and difficulties of life by bringing back the supernatural things that once characterized German society.
