T HE EFFECT OF A G E AND P A R T O F CUT T I NG ON THE G R O W T H AND PRODUCTI O N O F K I N G G RAS S S urya n i 2209/PT A B S TRACT T h e e x p e r i m e n t was conducted for s ix m o n t h s at t h e F a culty o f A n i m a l Husb a n d r y • G M U t o i n v e s t i g ate the effec t of a ge and p a r t of c u ttin g o n the gro w th and p r o d u c t i o n o f King G r ass . Th e col l e c t ing d a ta were a n a l y s e d b y usin g a 3 x3 fa c t o rial o f R C B D . T h e fac t o r I, w a s cu t t ing a g e s of thr e e , fou r a n d f i v e m o n ths . T he f a c t o r II, was pa r t o f c utti n g , nam e l y t o p, medi um an d b o t t o m , wh e r e a s n i n e t r i a l co m b ina t i ons w e r e obtain e d w i t h four re p l i cati o n s. There we r e 3 6 p lots of rows w i th 2 . 4 m lenght and t h e d i s t a n c e betw e e n ro w s was one meter a n d the dis t a n ce b e t w e en pla n t s w a s 3 0 c m . T he manure was giv e n three t i mes namely u r e a (46 % N ) w ith the d o se of 300 k g / h a . I t w as d o n e at three week s old , f o l l o w e d by e a ch 4 5 day s p eriodical y. T h e re s u lts i n d i c a t e d t h a t there w e re s i g n i f i cant d i ff e r enc e s (P < 0. 0 1) due t o cutting a g e on t h e average of hig h i n c r e a s i n g per wee k at 1 3 w e e k s p o s t planting . Th e h igh of p l a n t at 1 3 w e eks old , t h e fr e s h a n d d ry-m a t t e r prod u c t ion w e r e : 1 9 . 3 3 , 1 6 . 0 4 , 2 1.18 cm/ w e e k were 233. 9 5, 231 .53, 2 5 7 .70 cm ; 24. 7 8 , 25. 5 0, 3 3 .34 kg a nd 3.40, 3.44, 4. 54 k g , respe c t i vely . T h ere w e r e s ignific a n t d iffer e n c es (P < 0 .0 1) due to p a r t of c utting o n growt h p ercentage , t h e ave r age of hi g h t i n c r e a s e d pe r wee k at 1 3 w e e k p o st p lantin g , fr e s h product and dr y-matter p r oducti o n, t h e va l ues w e re : 9 4. 8, 8 9.6 , 71.9% ; 20.3 4, 19.42, 1 9 . 87 c m / wee k ; 3 0 .82, 26.02, 2 6.78 kg and 4. 35, 3 . 52, 3 .51 kg . The re were i n terac t i ons (P < 0. 01) between t reatm e n t s on t h e f r e sh p r o d uct , at all co m b i nation t ria l s, n a m e l y : 2 7 . 2 6, 24. 2 6 , 2 2 . 8 3, 27. 0 3, 27. 1 6 , 22.30, 38 . 18, 26. 6 3 a n d 3 5.2 0 k g . On t h e contr a r y n o i n t e r action s we r e ob s e r v e d b e t w e e n cut t i ng a ge an d p art of c u tting o n the p e r c e n t a ge of d eat h an d t he numbe r o f buds. I t was concl u d e d t h at the g rowth a nd productio n of cu t t i ng s y s t em at five mont h old a n d at t h e to p cutting was higher tha n other trea t ment s, so t h a t th e K i n g G r ass deve l o pment w a s rec o m m a n d e d t o cutting s y s t e m at f i v e m o nth s old .
