GERAKAN DEMOKRATISASI GWANGJU DALAM FILM A TAXI DRIVER : KAJIAN SOSIOLOGI SASTRA

Penelitian ini membahas tentang representasi Gerakan Demokratisasi Gwangju dalam film A Taxi Driver karya sutradara Jang Hoon. Film A Taxi Driver menggambarkan peristiwa Gerakan Demokratisasi Gwangju tahun 1980 dari sisi kisah nyata wartawan Jurgen Hinzpeter bersama sopir taksi yang mengantarnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah representasi seputar Gerakan Demokratisasi Gwangju dalam film A Taxi Driver. Selanjutnya, penelitian ini juga mendeskripsikan fakta sejarah dari representasi yang ada dalam film tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori sosiologi sastra Swingewood (1972) dengan pendekatan sastra sebagai manifestasi peristiwa sejarah dalam keadaan sosial dan budaya tertentu. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dialog tokoh dan adegan yang terdapat dalam film A Taxi Driver. Analisis data menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan memberikan uraian mengenai fakta sejarah yang diteliti. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa terdapat beberapa peristiwa tentang Gerakan Demokratisasi Gwangju yang direpresentasikan dalam film A Taxi Driver. Representasi tersebut antara lain, aksi demonstrasi mahasiswa, keadaan darurat militer di seluruh Korea Selatan, pers yang dikendalikan dan berita yang dimanipulasi oleh pemerintah, tindak kekerasan oleh tentara militer dan juga partisipasi sopir taksi Gwangju dalam membantu korban. Selain itu, film A Taxi Driver juga menggambarkan kisah nyata sopir taksi Kim Sabok yang mengantar wartawan Jurgen Hinzpeter untuk meliput peristiwa Gerakan Demokratisasi Gwangju pada Mei 1980. Melalui film ini, Jang Hoon berharap agar penonton dapat mengingat kembali perjuangan masyarakat dan peran orang-orang yang terlibat dalam Gerakan Demokratisasi Gwangju.

This research discusses about the representation of Gwangju Democratization Movement in the movie A Taxi Driver by director Jang Hoon. This film represented the Gwangju Democratization Movement in 1980 through the true story of reporter Jurgen Hinzpeter and a taxi driver Kim Sabok. The aim of this research is to identify the events of the Gwangju Democratization Movement represented in the movie A Taxi Driver and then describe the historical facts of the representations in the film. This research attempts to identify the representation of Gwangju Democratization Movement in literary works using Swingewood's sociology of literature theory. The aspect used from Swingewood theory is literature as a manifestation of historical events in certain social and culture. The data in this research were taken from the dialogues and scenes in the movie. The data obtained are explained using descriptive methods by providing descriptions of the historical facts. The results of the analysis indicate that the movie A Taxi Driver represented Gwangju Democratization Movement in 1980. The historical facts represented in the movie are demonstrations against the government and their demand to start democracy, the expansion of martial law in all provinces, government controlling the press and manipulated news by the government, military forces torture Gwangju civilians and the participation of Gwangju taxi drivers in helping victims. A Taxi Driver also represented the true story of a taxi driver Kim Sabok and reporter Jurgen Hinzpeter who recorded the events of the Gwangju Democratization Movement in May 1980. Through this movie, Jang Hoon hopes the audience can recall the struggles and the role of people involved in the Gwangju Democratization Movement.
