PENGARUH VARIASI KADAR AIR SUHU DAN LAMA PENYIMPANAN BIJI ROTAN SEEL TERHADAP VIABILITASNYA

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kadar air dan suhu yang tepat bagi penyimpanan biji rotan Seel ( Daemonorops melanochaetes B1.) untuk mempertahankan viabilitasnya selama mungkin. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan percobaan faktorial dalam rancangan acak lengkap dengan 3 perlakuan, yaitu kadar air biji awal yang terdiri dari 3 taraf (kadar air biji segar (+56 - 60%), kadar air biji yang diturunkan dengan pengovenan pada suhu 40°C selama 7 jam dalam buahnya (+42 - 46%), dan kadar air biji yang diturunkan dengan pengovenan pada suhu 40°C selama 13 jam dalam buahnya (+35 - 39%)), suhu ruang penyimpanan yang terdiri dari 4 taraf (suhu kamar (+27°C), 22°C, 6°C, dan -12°C), dan lama penyimpanan yang terdiri dari 7 taraf (0 minggu/kontrol, 1 minggu, 2 minggu, 3 minggu, 4 minggu, 5 minggu, dan 6 minggu). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa biji rotan Seel sangat peka terhadap penurunan kadar air dan suhu rendah yang ekstrim (-12°C). Kadar air yang sesuai untuk penyimpanannya adalah kadar air biji segar dengan suhu ruang penyimpanan berkisar antara 6° hingga 22°C.

The objective of this research is to know the suitable of the moisture content and temperatur for the rotan Seel ( Daemonorops melanochaetes B1.) seeds storage to maintain viability for long time. The experimental design used in this research is factorial in completely randomized design with 3 treatment is initial moisture content of seeds consist of 3 levels (i.e. fresh moisture content of seeds (+56 - 60%), moisture content of seeds decreased with warming in the oven at 40°C for 7 hours in the fruits (+42 - 46%), moisture content of seeds decreased with warming in the oven at 40°C for 13 hours in the fruits (+35 - 39%)), emperature of storage consist 4 levels (i.e. temperature at room (+27°C), 22°C, 6°C, and -12°C), storage period consist 7 levels (i.e. 0 week/control, 1 week, 2 week, 3 week, 4 week, 5 week, and 6 week). The result of the research indicated that rotan Seel seeds were very sensitive against the decreasing of moisture content and extreme low temperature (-12°C). The suitable moisture content for storage is the fresh moisture content of seeds with the temperature of storage roundabout 6° to 22°C.
