Rap sebagai Respon Terhadap Kelas Sosial: Sebuah Studi di Freiburg

Musik rap hadir karena pengalaman buruk yang dialami oleh Kaum Hitam di New York, Amerika Serikat pada 1970-an. Musik rap menjadi media untuk memperjuangkan kesetaraan hak dalam sosial, politik, dan identitas. Musik ini tak hanya membawa perubahan di Amerika Serikat, tetapi juga Jerman pada tahun 1980-an. Rap yang dibawakan oleh kalangan muda imigran, khususnya Turki, dan juga Jerman, mengidentifikasi diri mereka sebagai Orang HItam Jerman dan menyuarakan isu yang sama, yakni pengakuan identitas dan nasionalitas. Meski proses kemunculan musik ini sama, ditemukan perpaduan karakter-karakter musik rap dari tempat asalnya ke tempat lain. Hal tersebut dapat dilihat dari kategorisasi-kategorisasi yang disematkan pada musik yang mereka bawakan, juga bagaimana para musisi rap atau rapper mendudukkan diri dalam lingkungan sosial melalui karya musiknya. Mengambil lokasi penelitian di Freiburg im Breisgau, Jerman, maka rumusan masalah yang diajukan adalah, (1) apa pendapat para rapper di Freiburg tentang kelas sosial yang berlaku dalam kehidupan masyarakat?; (2) apa pandangan rapper di Freiburg tentang stereotip yang disandingkan kepada komunitas rap di Jerman?; serta (3) mengapa rapper di Freiburg merepresentasikan pandangan mereka melalui musik rap? Untuk menjawab pertanyaan tersebut, metode penelitian yang akan digunakan adalah metode etnografi, dengan wawancara mendalam bersama tiga orang rapper, juga wawancara virtual jika informan berada di luar Freiburg, serta observasi-partisipasi, baik lingkungan sekitar maupun media sosial. Hasil yang ditemukan adalah, para rapper menginginkan adanya pelonggaran terhadap ketatnya kelas sosial yang ada karena mereka memandang semua orang adalah setara, tanpa melihat latar belakang etnis lagi. Mereka pun menolak stereotip negatif yang disandingkan masyarakat tentang rapper sebagai sosok yang antisosial melalui ide penciptaan dan karya musiknya. Para rapper merepresentasikan pandangan-pandangan tersebut melalui musik rap karena dianggap keren, kritis, dan lebih menyampaikannya seperti ujaran dalam pertunjukannya.

Rap music exists because of the bad experiences that were experienced by the Black People in New York, the United States, around the 1970s. Rap music became a medium to uphold the rights equity in socio-politics and identity aspects. This music did not only bring some changes in the United States, but also in Germany around the 1980s. Rap music which was brought by the young migrant descents, especially the Turks, and also the Germans, identified themselves as the Black People of Germany and uttering the same issues, nationality and identity stances. Notwithstanding the same emergence processes, the mix of characters of rap music from its origin place to other places were still found. It can be seen through the categorizations that are hooked into the music, and how the musicians or the rappers positioning themselves in their society through their music. Take a field in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, the research questions are, (1) What do the rappers in Freiburg think of the social class that occurs in their society?; (2) How do the rappers in Freiburg perceive the stereotype that is juxtaposed to the rap community in Germany?; and (3) why do the rappers in Freiburg represent their view through rap music? Ethnography method was chosen to conduct the research, completed with in-depth interview with three informants, and also virtual interview if the informant was not domiliated in Freiburg, in along with observation-participation to our surroundings and social media. The results showed that the rappers are wishing for the ease of the social class as they perceive every single human is equal, without seeing their ethnical background. The rappers also resist the negative stereotype that is adhering by the society as a people who are antisocial, through the idea of its creation and their musical work. The rappers represent all of those views through rap music because it is seen as something cool, critical, and its delivery method like giving utterance in its performances
