Potret Masyarakat Urban dalam Novel dan Film Al-Fil Al-Azraq: Kajian Adaptasi Perspektif Respon Estetis

Adaptasi, sebagai salah satu wujud respon terhadap teks sastra, merupakan hal yang telah banyak diperbincangkan dalam dunia sastra atau dunia seni pada umumnya. Sebuah kasus adaptasi yang menarik adalah adaptasi novel al-Fil al-Azraq ke dalam film yang memperlihatkan adanya usaha dari adapter untuk mempertahankan cerita novel sekaligus mengubahnya menjadi karya baru dengan beragam kreativitas di dalamnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat perubahan media yang terjadi pada karya adaptasi serta mengungkapkan individualitas, efek, dan makna teks yang terdapat pada novel al-Fil al-Azraq sebagai teks sumber (background) dan film al-Fil al-Azraq sebagai karya adaptasinya (foreground) serta. Untuk melihat proses adaptasi ini, digunakan teori respon estetis dari Wolfgeng Iser dan teori adaptasi Linda Hutcheon. Teori respon estetis merupakan disiplin ilmu sastra yang menekankan pada hubungan antara teks dan pembaca dengan menggunakan metode dialektika. Adapun teori adaptasi merupakan teori yang digunakan untuk melihat bagaimana adaptasi bekerja melalui berbagai media dan genre dengan metode bandingan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa karya adaptasi tersebut mengalami pergeseran media dari media teks (text) ke media pertunjukan (screenplay) dan berimplikasi pada pergeseran model keterlibatan dari model penceritaan (telling mode) ke model pertunjukan (showing mode). Setelah melalui proses pembacaan, para adapter melakukan dialektika dengan teks sumber kemudian menampilkannya dalam karya adaptasinya melalui perubahan-perubahan dalam teks berupa alusi, negasi, dan pengisian blank pada cerita, tokoh, dan latar film. Perubahan tersebut juga berdampak pada individualitas, efek, dan makna karya adaptasi hingga mengakibakan adanya pergeseran dari teks sumber. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa karya adaptasi adalah karya baru yang memiliki individualitas dan kreativitas tersendiri, sebuah karya repetisi tanpa replikasi.

Adaptation, as one form of response to literary texts, is a matter that has been much discussed in the world of literature or the world of art in general. An interesting case of adaptation is the adaptation of al-Fil al-Azraq's novel to a film showing the effort of an adapter to preserve the novel story as well as transforming it into a new work with a variety of creativity in it. This study aims to the media changes occurring in the adaptation work and reveal the individuality, effects, and meaning of the text contained in the novel al-Fil al-Azraq as the background text and the film al-Fil al-Azraq as the foreground work. To see this process of adaptation, the theory of aesthetic response from Wolfgeng Iser and Linda Hutcheon's adaptation theory is used. The theory of aesthetic response is a literary discipline that emphasizes on the relationship between text and reader by using dialectical methods. The theory of adaptation is a theory used to see how adaptation works through various media and genres by using comparison method. The results of this study indicate that the work of adaptation is shifting media from text media to screenplay and implies shifting the mode of engagement from the telling mode to the show mode. After going through the reading process, the adapters do dialectic with the source text and then display it in their adaptation work through changes in the text in the form of allusions, negations, and filling blank. These changes also affect the individuality, effects, and meaning of the adaptation work to the point of shifting from the source text. This shows that the work of adaptation is a new work that has its own individuality and creativity, a work of repetition without replication.
