ANALISIS HERMENEUTIKA HANS-GEORG GADAMER TERHADAP HAKIKAT KEJAHATAN DALAM NOVEL DEATH COMES AS THE END KARYA AGATHA CHRISTIE

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memeroleh pemahaman mengenai hakikat kejahatan yang terdapat dalam novel Death Comes as the End karya Agatha Christie. Penelitian ini bertitik tolak pada dua hal: pertama, fakta bahwa kejahatan tidak pernah dapat dilepaskan dari kehidupan manusia. Kedua, gagasan mengenai kejahatan yang dituangkan Agatha Christie melalui novel-novelnya yang bergenre misteri, salah satunya adalah novel Death Comes as the End. Ketiga, hermeneutika Hans-Georg Gadamer sebagai kemampuan universal untuk memahami mampu memberikan interpretasi bagi hakikat kejahatan dalam novel Death Comes as the End. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskripsi, kesinambungan historis, interpretasi, dan refleksi. Penggunaan metode penelitian didasarkan atas permasalahan yang ada dan sebagai alat untuk mencari pemecahan masalah yang telah menjadi pertanyaan dalam rumusan masalah. Hasil yang dicapai dari penelitian ini adalah pemahaman mengenai hakikat kejahatan dalam karya Agatha Christie dalam perspektif hermeneutika Gadamer. Terdapat dua sumber kejahatan dalam novel Death Comes as the End, yaitu kejahatan yang datangnya dari luar, dan kejahatan yang datangya dari dalam. Di dalam novel Death Comes as the End ditemukan tiga klasifikasi kejahatan: pertama, kejahatan yang terkait dengan motif. Kedua, kejahatan yang terkait dengan faktor lingkungan. Ketiga, kejahatan yang terkait dengan mitos. Penelitian ini, melalui hermeneutika Hans-Georg Gadamer, berupaya mencari unsur-unsur hermeneutis di dalam novel Death Comes as the End sehingga memeroleh pemahaman yang menyeluruh mengenai hakikat kejahatan yang terdapat di dalamnya.

This study aims to gain an understanding of the nature of evil found in the novel Death Comes as the End by Agatha Christie. This research is based on two things: the first, the fact that evil can never be released from human life. The second, the idea of evil that Agatha Christie poured through her mysterious genre novels, one of which is the novel Death Comes as the End. The third, Hans-Georg Gadamer's hermeneutics as the universal ability to help understanding and providing an interpretation of the nature of evil in the novel Death Comes as the End. The methods used in this research are description, historical continuity, interpretation, and reflection. The use of the research methods is based on existing problems and as an instrument in finding the problem solving of the written question in the problem formulation. The result of this research is the perceptive of the nature of evil in Agatha Christie's work based on the perspective of Gadamer's hermeneutics. There are two sources of evil in the novel Death Comes as the End, the evil that comes from outside, and the evil that comes from within. In the novel Death Comes as the End were found three classifications of wickedness: first, the evil associated with the motive. Second, evils associated to environmental factors. Third, the evil associated with the myth. This study, through Hans-Georg Gadamer, attempts to find the hermeneutics elements in the novel Death Comes as the End in order to gain a thorough understanding of the nature of the evil contained therein.
