Penerapan kebijakan sensor menjadi salah satu masalah pada sinetron yang menjadi program televisi favorit masyarakat Indonesia. Tidak sedikit masyarakat yang menunjukkan kekecewaannya terkait penerapan sensor pada program sinetron. Penerapan kebijakan sensor dianggap seringkali kurang tepat atau berlebihan. Protes dari masyarakat ini biasanya juga disertai tuduhan kepada KPI yang disebut berlebihan dalam menerapkan kebijakan sensor. Padahal tugas penerapan kebijakan sensor tidak ada di tangan KPI. Permasalahan tersebut selanjutnya menjadi bahasan dalam penelitian Penerapan Kebijakan Sensor pada Acara Sinetron oleh Stasiun Televisi Swasta ANTV (Studi Deskriptif Penerapan Kebijakan Sensor pada Sinetron oleh ANTV). ANTV menjadi salah satu obyek vital penelitian penerapan kebijakan sensor pada sinetron karena menayangkan sinetron dengan waktu yang relatif lebih lama dibanding stasiun televisi lain. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan peneliti adalah metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Sedangkan untuk mendapatkan data, peneliti menggunakan teknik wawancara mendalam (depth interview), observasi, dan dokumen. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis dengan tiga cara berupa: reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa KPI bukan lembaga yang berwenang untuk menerapkan kebijakan sensor. Pasalnya, penerapan kebijakan sensor ada pada tahap pra-tayang yang menjadi tanggung jawab LSF dan stasiun televisi. Sementara KPI bertugas pada tahap post-tayang sebagai pengawas isi siaran. Fakta ini menunjukkan bahwa tuduhan masyarakat pada KPI tentang penerapan kebijakan sensor yang berlebihan itu salah kaprah. Lalu di balik penerapan sensor yang dianggap berlebihan atau kurang tepat, hal itu disebabkan oleh perbedaan persepsi antarlembaga, baik KPI, LSF, maupun stasiun televisi terkait. Persepsi menjadi poin penting dalam penerapan kebijakan sensor pada sinetron.

The application of censorship policy becomes one of the problems on TV series or sinetron that become the favorite television program of Indonesian people. Not a few people who showed disappointment related to the application of censorship on sinetron. The application of censorship policy is considered to be often inappropriate or excessive. Protests from these communities are usually also accompanied by allegations to the KPI called excessive in applying the policy of censorship. Whereas the task of applying the censorship policy is not in the hands of KPI. The problem is then discussed in the research of The Application of Censorship Policy on TV Series by ANTV (Descriptive Studies of Censorship Policies Application on TV Series by ANTV). ANTV became one of the vital objects of research on the implementation of the censorship policy on sinetron because it broadcasts sinetron with a relatively longer time than other television stations. The type of research used by researchers is descriptive qualitative research method. While to get the data, researcher use depth interview, observation, and document. The data obtained are then analyzed in three ways: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this research show that KPI is not an institution authorized to implement the policy of censorship. There are two phase the implementation of the censorship policy. The first one is pra-on air phase which is the responsibility of LSF and television stations. While KPI is on duty at post-on air phase as supervisor of broadcast content. This fact indicates that the public accusations on KPI regarding the application of excessive censorship policy are misguided. Behind the application of censorship that are considered excessive or less precise, it is caused by differences in perception between institutions, both KPI, LSF, and related television stations. Perception becomes an important point in the implementation of the censorship policy on sinetron.
