MITOS PENDEKAR JAKA SEMBUNG DALAM KOMIK PENDEKAR GUNUNG SEMBUNG (1969) KARYA DJAIR

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui apakah tokoh Jaka Sembung dalam komik Pendekar Gunung Sembung (1969) karya Djair sebagai produk budaya populer masyarakat modern memenuhi ciri atau pola monomyth dari Joseph Campbell. Penelitian juga bertujuan mengetahui seberapa jauh pola mitis hadir dalam komik tersebut, dan apakah sifat modern komik berperan terhadap pola mitis Jaka Sembung di dalamnya. Lewat penelusuran pola mitis dalam perjalanan Jaka Sembung di komik Pendekar Gunung Sembung terkuak tujuan dari penelitian ini. Penelitian berfokus pada aspek verbal dalam komik. Aspek gambar dan kata membuat analisis monomyth diterapkan secara fleksibel di mana keduanya diperlakukan sebagai satuan teks. Satuan teks ini diklasifikasi dan lalu dianalisis berdasar tiga tahapan besar monomyth atau Perjalanan Hero: Keberangkatan, Inisiasi, dan Kepulangan Kembali, yang di bawahnya terdapat total 17 sub-tahapan. Hasilnya, walau tidak semua tahapan dalam monomyth ada dalam komik, keberadaan Jaka Sembung memang masih mengikuti pola mitis, yang mana sifat modern komik juga memberi pengaruh terhadap pola tersebut. Keduanya sama-sama mengandung sejumlah penyesuaian yang tumbuh di mana komik Jaka Sembung hadir.

This study aims to determine whether Jaka Sembung as a character in comic book called Pendekar Gunung Sembung (1969) written by Djair, a popular culture product of modern society, meets the patterns of monomyth theory from Joseph Campbell. The study also aims to find out how far the mythic pattern is present in the comic, and whether the modern nature of the comic plays a role in the mythic pattern of Jaka Sembung in the comic. Through the search of mythic patterns in the journey of Jaka Sembung in the comic Pendekar Gunung Sembung the answers to the questions of research unfold. Research focuses on the verbal aspects of comics. The image and word aspects make the monomyth analysis applied flexibly in which both are treated as text units. Text units are classified and then analyzed according to three major stages of monomyth or Heroes Journey: Departure, Initiation, and Return, which there are a total of 17 sub-stages below them. As the result, though not all stages in the monomyth is in the comic, Jaka Sembung's existence is still following the mythic pattern, in which the modern nature of comics also give effect to its pattern. They both contain a growing number of adjustments in which the Jaka Sembung comic is present.
