PERBANDINGAN KUALITAS EJAKULAT SEMEN KALKUN (Meleagris gallopavo) DENGAN METODE KOLEKSI TEASER DAN MASASE

Kalkun merupakan salah satu jenis aneka ternak unggas yang mulai dikembangkan sebagai sumber protein hewani, namun sampai saat ini daging kalkun masih sulit didapatkan karena jumlah populasinya masih sedikit. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui metode yang tepat untuk koleksi semen kalkun, dengan metode teaser atau masase sehingga dapat bermanfaat dalam peningkatan populasi kalkun. Sampel ejakulat diambil dari empat ekor kalkun jantan dan satu kalkun betina. Ejakulat dikoleksi setiap pagi dengan metode teaser dan masase, metode teaser yaitu memancing pejantan menggunakan betina, selama kalkun jantan melakukan mounting, ejakulat ditampung ditabung konikel yang diposisikan di sekitar kloaka selama pengoleksian. Metode masase, yaitu pemijatan didaerah dorso-abdominal sampai kloaka. Pemeriksaan kualitas ejakulat meliputi konsentrasi spermatozoa, motilitas individu, dan hidup-mati spermatozoa. Data yang diperoleh kemudian ditentukan nilai perbandingan antara metode koleksi semen teaser dan masase menggunakan t-test pada program SPSS 16.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan secara analisis statistik tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan dari metode koleksi terhadap kualitas spermatozoa (P>0,05) kecuali faktor volumenya (P<0,05), namun jika dilihat dari data deskriptif yang ada menunjukkan bahwa metode koleksi dengan teaser memiliki kecenderungan rata-rata kualitas yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan metode koleksi masase.

Turkey is one of the various poultry that began to be develope as a source of animal protein, but this time the turkey is still difficult to obtain because of small population. This study was conducted to determine the proper method for turkey semen collection, with the teaser or massage methods that can be useful in improving turkey population. Ejaculate samples taken from four gobbler and one female turkey. Ejaculate is being collected each morning with a teaser and massage methods, teaser methods means provoke gobbler using female turkey, during the gobbler mounting, ejaculate semen are accommodated in the conical tube which is positioned around the cloaca during the collected time. While the method of massage is a massaging dorso-abdominal area until the cloaca. Examination of ejaculate quality include sperm concentration, motility and life-and-death individual spermatozoa. The data obtained and determined the value of the comparison between the method of semen collection teaser and massage using t-test in SPSS 16.0. The results showed in the statistical analysis that is no significant difference to the quality of the methods of collection of spermatozoa (P> 0.05) except factor volume (P <0.05), but when viewed from the descriptive data, it suggests that methods of collection with teaser has the average propensity of higher quality than the method of collection of massage.
