Flouting of Four Gricean's Maxims in Insidious and Insidious 2

Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk melihat maksim apa yang dilanggar oleh karakter-karakter yang ada di dalam Insidious dan Insidious 2 dan meniliti mengapa karakter-karakter yang ada di dalam film horor memilih untuk tidak mematuhi maksim-maksim prinsip kerjasama dalam memberikan informasi kepada karakter lain. Dari hasil penelitian menunjukkan bawa dalam Insidious para karakter tidak mematuhi keempat prinsip kerjasama dengan 24 kasus: 3 kasus menunjukan ketidakpatuhan pada maksim kualitas (13.1%), 9 kasus ketidakpatuhan maksim kuantitas (39.1%), 6 kasus ketidakpatuhan maksim relasi (26.1%), dan 5 kasus ketidakpatuhan maksim cara (21.7%). Sedangkan karakter-karakter di Insidious 2 tidak mematuhi hanya dua prinsip kerjasama, yaitu maksim kuantitas dan maksim relasi dengan 7 kasus: 3 kasus ketidakpatuhan maksim kuantitas (42.8%), dan 4 kasus ketidakpatuhan maksim relasi (57.2%). Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa karakter-karakter Insidious dan Insidious 2 tidak mematuhi maksim prinsip kerjasama karena beberapa alasan dan alasan yang paling banyak terjadi adalah untuk memberikan pemahaman lebih kepada karakter lain tentang keberadaan aktifitas makhlus halus, menghindari membuat karakter utama marah, meyakinkan pendengar, dan mengkritik perbuatan seseorang.

The research attempts to study the maxims of Cooperative Principle that are flouted by the characters in two horror movies Insidious and Insidious 2. It also aims to investigate the functions of the flouting that the characters made when delivering information to other characters. The result shows that in Insidious, the characters flout all the maxims with 23 cases of floutings: 3 cases of flouting the maxim of quality (13.1%), 9 cases of flouting the maxim of quantity (39.1%), 6 cases of flouting the maxim of relation (26.1%), and 5 cases of flouting the maxim of manner (21.7%). Whereas the characters in Insidious 2 only flout two maxims, the maxim of quantity and relation with 7 cases of floutings: 3 cases of flouting the maxim of quantity (42.8%), and 4 cases of flouting the maxim of relation (57.2%). The result of the analysis shows that the characters in Insidious and Insidious 2 flout the maxims for several reasons which are the most often occurred are avoiding making the main characters upset, providing comprehensive explanation, convincing the hearer, and criticizing someone's action.
