Tesis ini berjudul Makna Ajaran Perempuan Jawa pada Serat Wasita Dyah Utama dalam Perspektif Semiotika Umberto Eco. Latar belakang dari penulisan tesis ini adalah peran teks dalam menunjukan kebenaran dan kebohongan sangat kuat. Peran tersebut menyentuh ranah kebudayaan yang berpondasi pada teks sebagai rujukan yang diakui. Untuk itu, diperlukan suatu alat analisis guna memeroleh hasil yang maksimal dalam menganalisis kebenaran suatu teks. Penelitian ini menawarkan tiga persoalan pokok yang akan dibahas lebih dalam. Pertama, apa isi serat dan macam-macam ajaran perempuan Jawa dalam serat Wasita Dyah Utama. Kedua, bagaimana konsep semiotika Umberto Eco. Ketiga, seperti apa hasil analisis semiotika Umberto Eco terhadap serat Wasita Dyah Utama. Untuk itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis isi serat dan macam-macam ajarannya untuk perempuan Jawa, selanjutnya menganalisa konsep semiotika Umberto Eco dan terakhir untuk menemukan hasil analisis semiotika Umberto Eco terhadap serat Wasita Dyah Utama. Metode penelitan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode hermeneutika. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode library research yang berarti menggunakan metode pustaka. Data-data diperoleh melalui pepustakaan dan toko buku untuk memperkaya data primer dan sekunder. Sementara itu, metode analisis data meliputi tahap verstehen, interpretasi, heuristika, induktif dan bahasa inklusif. Data-data yang berhasil dikumpulkan selanjutnya melalui tahap spekulasi, deskriptif, analisis, interpretasi, konprehensif dan selanjutnya dievaluasi. Penelitian ini berhasil menemukan tiga poin utama. Pertama, prinsip dasar semiotika yang digagas oleh Eco adalah displin ilmu yang dapat digunakan untuk membuktikan kebenaran, sekaligus kedustaan. Kedua, serat Wasita Dyah Utama berisi nasihat-nasihat baik untuk menciptakan perempuan unggul, baik bagi perempuan yang masih gadis, sudah menjadi istri maupun bagi yang sudah menjadi Ibu. Ketiga, analisis semiotika terhadap serat Wasita Dyah Utama menunjukkan tiga poin penting. (1). Hasil analisis berhasil menemukan tanda-tanda dalam serat yang berguna untuk mengategorikan beberapa bentuk ajaran untuk peremupuan Jawa. (2). Hasil analisis menunjukkan terdapat makna-makna lain yang tidak tersurat dalam serat. (3) Hasil analisis memunculkan kedustaan dari serat yang selama ini tersembunyi atau tidak tampak.

The thesis is entitled the meaning teachings of women Javan on Serat Wasita Dyah Utama in the Perspective of Semiotics Umberto Eco. The background of this thesis is the role of the text in the show the truth and lies are very strong. The Role of touching the realm of culture are basically recognized as a reference text. For that, we need an analysis tool in order to obtain maximum results in analyzing the truth of the text. This study offers three key issues that will be discussed further. First, what contents serat Wasita Dyah Utama. Second, how the concept of semiotics Umberto Eco. Third, what Umberto Eco semiotic analysis results of the serat Wasita Dyah Utama. Therefore, This study aimed to analyze the contents serat Wasita Dyah Utama, furthermore, analyzing the concept of semiotics Umberto Eco, and then to find the results of the analysis of semiotics Umberto Eco to Serat Wasita Dyah Utama. Research methods used in this research is the method of hermeneutics. Collecting data using library research methods. The data obtained through libraries and bookstores to enrich primary and secondary data. Meanwhile, the method includes the step verstehen data analysis, interpretation, heuristics, inductive and inclusive language. The data collected through the next stage of speculation, descriptive, analysis, interpretation, comprehensible and subsequently evaluated. This study managed to find three main points. First, the basic principles of semiotics initiated by Eco are disciplines that can be used to prove the truth, as well as a lie. Second, Serat Wasita Dyah Utama contains good advice for creating a superior woman. Third, semiotic analysis of the serat Wasita Dyah Utama produce three important points. (1) The results of the analysis had found signs of the fiber that is useful to categorize the teachings of some form for Javanese women (2) The analysis showed there are other meanings that are not written in the serat Wasita Dyah Utama (3) The results of the analysis led to a lie of the serat Wasita Dyah Utama that had been hidden or invisible
