Realisme Magis dalam Kajian Visualisasi Bahasa pada Novel Grafis "The Photographer: Into War-Torn Afganistan, with Doctors without Borders'

Komik sebagai sebuah buku cerita bergambar yang kini lebih dikenal dengan istilah graphic novel (novel grafis), makin hari makin berkembang keragamannya. Dalam sebuah novel grafis yang berjudul "The Photographer: Into War-Torn Afghanistan with Doctors without Borders" disajikan dua jenis teks piktorial yaitu dalam gambar komik dan karya foto. Pengkajian novel grafis ini akan mencoba menemukan bentuk visualisasi bahasa dengan menempatkan novel grafis sebagai media naratif dalam menyampaikan pesan dan makna serta saling keterkaitan satu sama lain dengan munculnya dua ragam jenis teks piktorial. Pendekatan realisme magis yang merupakan teori dari Wendy B. Faris dan dikenal lekat dengan wacana poskolonialisme akan digunakan untuk menemukan karakteristik realisme magis dalam novel grafis tersebut melalui visualisasi bahasa yang tertuang dalam panel komik dan frame foto. Dari kajian di atas ditemukan bahwa novel grafis tersebut memiliki kelima karakteristik realisme magis yang mengusung pesan tersirat bahwa dalam keseluruhan pembacaan objek kajian tersebut terdapat suatu bentuk relasi kuasa antara Barat dan Timur dan bagaimana Barat memandang Timur.

Comic, as a story book full of drawing, which is now more popularly known as graphic novel, expands and varies more each day. In a graphic novel entitled "The Photographer: Into War-Torn Afghanistan with Doctors without Borders", two kinds of pictorial text, the comic drawing and the photograph works are elaborately juxtaposed. The study of this graphic novel aims to find the visualization of the language used and to consider the graphic novel as a narrative media in delivering the message and meaning as well as their intertwined presence along with the two kinds of pictorial texts. Wendy B. Faris������¢���¯���¿���½���¯���¿���½ magical realism, often related to the discourse of post-colonialism, was used as an approach to find the characteristics of magical realism in the graphic novel through the language visualization represented in both comic panels and photo frames. From the above study, five characteristics of magical realisms were found in the graphic novel and from the overall reading it implied a power relation between the West and the East and how the West viewed the East from their point of view.
