THE IMPACT OF WEATHER VARIABILITY ON INDIVIDUAL DESIRE TO USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT CASE STUDY : YOGYAKARTA- INDONESIA

Penelitian tentang Penelitian tentang hubungan antara cuaca dan transportasi memiliki beberapa keuntungan diantaranya untuk mengantisipasi dampak yang disebabkan cuaca terhadap prilaku perjalanan dan aktifitas transportasi serta untuk membantu Pemerintah dan pembuat kebijakan untuk memperhatikan faktor cuaca disetiap keputusan baik dalam perencanaan maupun implementasi. Indonesia merupakan negara beriklim tropis yang hanya memiliki dua jenis kondisi cuaca yaitu kemarau dan penghujan, tetapi keduanya bisa mempengaruhi sistem transportasi baik langsung maupun tidak. Dalam studi ini penulis menggunakan persepsi dan pengalaman penumpang sebagai data primer untuk mencari hubungan antara cuaca dan angkutan umum kemudian dianalisis melalui pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Peneliti menemukan bahwa jumlah penumpang angkutan umum mengalami peningkatan saat hujan deras sebesar 8.9%, saat angin kencang sebesar 10.1% dan meningkat 3% saat cuaca panas. Dari hasil penelitian, cuaca juga mempengaruhi keinginan, travel behavior¸ persepsi terhadap kondisi angkutan umum, jenis kendaraan yang digunakan, waktu keberangkatan dan keputusan- keputusan melakukan perjalanan.

Research about the relationship between weather with transport has several benefits which are tackling the impact caused by the behavior of the weather on the activities of transport and help governments and policy makers to pay attention to weather factors in every decisions both planning and implementation. Indonesia as a tropical country has only two kinds of weather conditions are hot and rainy, but they certainly affect the transportation system directly or indirectly. In this study the authors use perception and the passenger experience as a primary data source to find the relationship between weather and public transport further qualitative and quantitative approach. Author also conducted two approaches in analyzing the data that is both qualitative and quantitative. Author found that the number of passenger of public transport increase during heavy rains is about 8.9%, during strong wind is about 10.1%, and increase 3% when the temperature is higher. From the research results, weather can also affect desire, people behavior, perception of the condition of public transport, the type of vehicles used, the time of departure as well as the decisions of travel.
