ASPEK-ASPEK YANG MEMPENGARUHI DINAMIKA PEMANFAATAN KERETA API DI PABRIK GULA GONDANG BARU

Arkeologi sebagai ilmu yang mempelajari masa lalu manusia memiliki tiga paradigma, salah satu paradigma tersebut adalah memahami proses perubahan budaya. Perubahan budaya merupakan proses yang dilalui oleh hampir semua kebudayaan. Kereta api merupakan salah satu benda materi yang mengalami perubahan, begitu pula kereta api yang dimiliki oleh Pabrik Gula Gondang Baru sejak awal 1920-an. Sejak saat P.G. Gondang Baru mulai memanfaatkan kereta sebagai alat angkut dalam proses produksi. Pengaruh pemanfaatan kereta uap di P.G Gondang Baru tidak berlangsung selamanya, apalagi setelah mesin diesel mulai lazim digunakan di dunia karena kemudahan penggunaannya. Tercatat, pemanfaatan kereta uap di P.G. Gondang Baru sudah berakhir pada 1984. Tapi ada hal yang cukup menarik, yaitu sebelum tahun 1984 P.G. Gondang Baru telah menambah armada kereta bermesin diesel pada sekitar tahun 1960-an. Dengan demikian, antara tahun 1960-an sampai 1984, P.G. Gondang Baru memanfaatkan dua jenis mesin kereta sekaligus, yaitu uap dan diesel. Perubahan pemanfaatan kereta api di P.G. Gondang Baru adalah fokus yang menjadi kajian dalam penelitian ini.

ABSTRACT Archaeology as a science that studies the human past has three paradigms. One of the paradigm is to understand the process of cultural change. The cultural change is a process which happens in all cultures in the world. The train is one of the material things that are changing, so are the trains owned by Gondang Baru Sugar Factory since the early 1920s. Since 1920s Gondang Baru Sugar Factory began to use trains as a means of conveyance in the production process. The influence of the use of a steam train in Gondang Baru Sugar Factory didn’t last forever, especially after the diesel engines are widely used in the world for ease of use. Noted, the use of a steam train in Gondang Baru Sugar Factory had already ended in 1984. But there are things quite interesting, namely before 1984 Gondang Baru Sugar Factory has added a fleet of diesel trains in about the 1960s. Thus, between 1960 to 1984, o.g. New gondang was utilizing two types of train engines at once, ie steam and diesel. The changing of trains usage in the Gondang Baru Sugar Factory is the focus to be studied in this research.
