Correlation between Immunoglobulin E (IgE) Sensitization of House Dust Mite and Shrimp Allergen

ABSTRACT Title. Correlation Between IgE Sensitization of House Dust Mite and shrimp Allergen Background. Today allergy reaction very often happen in world society and the risk of allergy will increase. While in the last 20-30 years,in developing country case of allergy more increase. There is an increase in the prevalence of allergic disease that has occur with 30-40% of the world population now being affected by one or more allergic conditions. Cross-reactivity between HDM allergens and allergens from other invertebrates has been suspected to cause or worsen food allergy (snails and Shrimp) Dustmite is one of the important source of indoor alergen. Some study proclaim child with sensitization IgE house dust mite have prevalence cross reaction with shrimp as big as 81%. Shrimp tropomyosin (Pen a 1) and dust mite Der p 10 and Der f 10 share about 81% A known pan-allergen among many invertebrates is tropomyosin that has been shown to be a cross-reacting allergen of many arthropods. Tropomyosin is a major allergen in shrimp (Pen a 1). And the research from said Derp 10 is the tropomyosin allergen.dustmite and shrimp have related potensial allergic(cross reaction). Objective. To analyze the correlation between IgE sensitization of house dust mite allergen with shrimp allergen. Method. This study used cross-sectional design with 134 samples aged 6 to 12 years (72 boys and 62 girls) from two elementary schools in Sleman, DI Yogyakarta province by random simple sampling. The data were collected by using skin prick test and interview with questionnaire then analyzed using chi square test. Result. The results showed that from 134 children there were 25 children who showed positive SPT results for house dust mite allergen and 22 children have positive for shrimp allergen. 17 of 134 children have positive result for both allergens. The data was analyzed by chi-square p < 0,05 then calculated again by prevalence ratio to nominal data. The finding was 14,824 (6,043-36,367) with p value < 0,001. Conclusion. There is a correlation between IgE sensitization of house dust mite allergen and shrimp allergen.
