Sementara parameter subjektif meliputi: thermal sensation, thermal comfort, clothing comfort, skin wetness, wet sensation, thrist sensation, rating of perceived exertion (RPE), dan perceptual strain index (PeSI).

Identifying physiological and subjective responses caused by personal protective equipment (PPE) has become important to preventing heat-related illness risks and maintaining the performance of healthcare workers. This study aims to examine the effects of PPE Level 2 and PPE Level 3 on physiological and subjective responses and estimate the recovery duration, following the guidelines of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia during pandemic COVID-19. This study was conducted using primary from a laboratory experiment. The total subjects were ten female healthcare workers, with an average age of 28.8 ± 2.53 years. The subject performed a physical workload on a treadmill with a 65% maximum heart rate capacity (HRmax). The parameters measured during the experiment included physiological parameters such as heart rate (HR), tympanic temperature, skin temperature, body temperature, body mass loss (BML), and physiological strain index (PSI). Subjective parameters included: thermal sensation, thermal comfort, clothing comfort, skin wetness, wet sensation, thirst sensation, rating of perceived exertion (RPE), and dan perceptual strain index (PeSI). The results showed that PPE Level 3 increased physiological heat strain more and had worse subjective parameters than PPE Level 2. These results occurred because of significantly greater physiological and subjective responses at the end of physical activity and the end of recovery. Based on these physiological parameters (PSI) showed significantly different results (p<0.05), where the estimated recovery duration for healthcare workers were 9-17 min and 19-27 min when they worked wearing PPE Level 2 and PPE Level 3, respectively. Meanwhile, the estimated recovery duration based on subjective parameters (PeSI) did not show significantly different results (p>0.05), 20-24 min and 20-26 min when they worked wearing PPE Level 2 and PPE Level 3, respectively, after using PPE for 80 minutes with 40 minutes of constant work activity.
