Power Relation Between Katniss Everdeen and President Snow in The Hunger Games Trilogy

Trilogi The Hunger Games yang bertemakan fiksi distopia mempunyai teks yang berkisar pada pelaksanaan kekuasaan di antara para karakternya, yang memunculkan relasi kuasa. Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dinamika relasi kuasa antara dua karakter utama, Katniss Everdeen dan Presiden Snow, dan bagaimana relasi kuasa keduanya mencerminkan dominasi dan resistensi. Analisis skripsi menggunakan teori relasi kuasa oleh Foucault. Pembahasan skripsi menyimpulkan bahwa relasi kuasa antara Katniss dan Presiden Snow terbentuk melalui distribusi kekuasaan yang menjadikan keduanya subjek yang dapat menjalankan kekuasaan dan menuntun terciptanya sebuah relasi kuasa di mana mereka dapat saling melengkapi kekuasaan satu sama lain. Sebuah jaringan produktif juga terbentuk ketika mereka melengkapi relasi kuasa dengan menggunakan tujuan dan rasionalisasi dalam menjalankan kekuasaan di sepanjang trilogi. Dominasi dan resistensi juga tercermin dalam relasi kuasa melalui penggunaan kedua efek kekuasaan tersebut sebagai strategi oleh Presiden Snow dan Katniss, yang menjadikan dominasi dan resistensi sebagai respon untuk saling membalas dan memengaruhi serangkaian peristiwa dalam cerita.

The Hunger Games trilogy as a dystopian fiction provides a text that revolves around the exercise of power among its characters that leads to the emergence of power relations. This paper aims to find out about the dynamic of the power relation between two principal characters, Katniss Everdeen and President Snow, and how the power relation reflects domination and resistance. For the analysis, this paper applies Foucault's theory of power relations. The discussion concludes that the power relation between Katniss and President Snow is formed through the distribution of power that makes them subjects who can exercise power, and in the process, leads them to create a power relation where they complement each other's power. A productive network is then formed as they work out the power relation with objectives and rationalization to exercise their power throughout the trilogy. Furthermore, the domination and resistance are reflected in the power relation through the use of those two effects of power as strategies by President Snow and Katniss respectively. Resulting in interchanging responses of domination and resistance that affect a series of events in the story.
