Citra Perawat Menurut Persepsi Pelajar Tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) di kota Yogyakarta

Latar Belakang: Jumlah perawat adalah terbanyak dan paling lama kontak dengan pasien dalam memberikan pelayanan kesehatan di rumah sakit, sehingga menjadikannya profesi kesehatan yang banyak mendapatkan persepsi dari publik. Akumulasi persepsi ini, menjadi salah satu indikator yang dapat menumbuhkan citra perawat di mata publik, baik citra positif maupun negatif. Salah satu yang perlu mendapat perhatian terkait dengan persepsi ini adalah persepsi pelajar SMA terhadap citra perawat. Persepsi dan pemahaman yang salah tentang perawat pada kalangan pelajar tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) akan berpengaruh pada minat melanjutkan pendidikan ke jurusan keperawatan dan nantinya akan berpengaruh pada perekrutan tenaga kesehatan perawat. Tujuan: Mengetahui bagaimana citra perawat menurut persepsi pelajar tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) di kota Yogyakarta. Metodologi Penelitian: Penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Sebanyak 415 pelajar kelas XII IPA di kota Yogyakarta berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini pada bulan Januari 2016 dengan mengisi checklist dalam kuesioner yang dibuat oleh peneliti dengan memodifikasi kuesioner dari penelitian Senarath & Gunawerdana dan kusioner May et al. Analisis data univariat digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan karakteristik responden serta variabel yang diteliti (tingkat pengetahuan, persepsi, dan keinginan/minat). Analisis bivariat dengan uji statistik chi square digunakan untuk menjelaskan hubungan variabel tingkat pengetahuan pelajar SMA dan persepsi tentang perawat terhadap keinginan untuk melanjutkan pendidikan di jurusan keperawatan. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, dari 415 responden, 54,9% responden memiliki pengetahuan yang tinggi tentang keperawatan, 47% responden memiliki persepsi positif terhadap perawat, dan 49,4% responden memiliki minat pada bidang keperawatan. Hasil Uji Statistik dengan menggunakan Chi square menunjukkan, tidak ada hubungan antara pengetahuan dan persepsi pelajar terhadap perawat dengan keinginan melanjutkan pendidikan ke jurusan keperawatan. Kesimpulan: Perlunya memperbaiki citra perawat pada persepsi publik, serta pemberian informasi pada pelajar SMA tentang keperawatan dan prospek kerjanya.

Background: Nurses have the biggest quantity among the other medical staff. Nurses also have the longest contact with the patients in order to give the services. In this case, profession as a nurses are a healthcare profession that get a lot of perception from public. This perceptions become an indicator affecting the positive and negative image growth on a public. Wrong perceptions and misconception about the healthcare profession called nurse on a high school students will affect the interest in continuing study on nursing department. This also affect the healthcare profession recruitment as nurse. Purpose: To study about the image of nursing according to the senior high school student’s perceptions in Yogyakarta Research Method: Descriptive study with cross sectional approach. 415 high school students in the third grade with science major have participated in this study in Januari 2016 by filling the checklist of the questionnaire designed by researcher with modified the questionnaire from Senarath & Gunaredana study and the questionnaire frum May at al study. Univariate analysis used to describe the characteristicts of respondents and the variables of the study (level of knowledge, perception, and interest). Bivariate analysis with chi square test used to explain the relationship between level of knowledge and perception about nursing with interest to continue education in nursing departement. Results: Results showed that from total of 415 respondents, 54,9% of respondents had a high knowledge about nursing, 47% had positive perception about nurses, and 49,4% had an interest to continue education in nursing departement. Chisquare test statistics showed, there was no relationship between knowledge and perception of the students about nursing with the desire to continue education to nursing majors. Counclusion: The need to improve the image of nurses in public perception, and the provision of information for high school students about nursing and its prospect.
