KOMPOSISI JENIS DAN PEMANFAATAN VEGETASI DI LERENG UTARA GUNUNG LAWU

Hutan alam di lereng utara Gunung Lawu berperan penting sebagai sumber mata air, khususnya bagi pemenuhan kebutuhan masyarakat Desa Girikerto, Kecamatan Sine, Kabupaten Ngawi. Untuk itu, lingkungan hutan tersebut perlu dijaga kelestariannya walaupun hutan alam di lereng utara Gunung Lawu berstatus bukan hutan lindung. Kebakaran hutan dan pencurian kayu menjadi ancaman serius terhadap kelestarian jenis-jenis asli pegunungan di lereng utara Gunung Lawu. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis vegetasi dan pemanfaatannya oleh masyarakat Desa Girikerto. Penelitian dilakukan di hutan alam lereng utara Gunung Lawu pada bulan Juli-Agustus 2015. Metode pengambilan data menggunakan petak ukur nested sampling berukuran 20 m x 20 m, 10 m x 10 m, 5 m x 5 m, dan 2 m x 2 m guna pengamatan tingkat pertumbuhan pohon, tiang, sapihan, dan semai. Intesitas sampling sebesar 2,5% atau 13 petak ukur yang diletakkan secara purposive sampling. Data pemanfaatan vegetasi diperoleh melalui wawancara terhadap 155 orang tua warga Desa Girikerto yang berusia di atas 60 tahun dengan menggunakan panduan kuesioner. Variabel yang diamati adalah komposisi jenis, Indeks Nilai Penting (INP), Indeks Keanekaragaman, dan pemanfaatan vegetasi oleh masyarakat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa vegetasi penyusun lereng utara Gunung Lawu terdiri atas 19 jenis dalam 14 famili. Tingkat hidup strata semai didominasi oleh uncen-uncen kebo (Melastoma trachyphyllum), sedangkan sapihan, tiang, dan pohon didominasi oleh mangium (Acacia mangium). Jenis pohon asli yang dijumpai adalah bulu (Ficus), cobor (Litsea angulata), jingkat (Macaranga javanica), condong lawe (Engelhardia spicata), cempaka putih (Michelia alba), dan sarangan (Castanopsis argentea). Indeks Keanekaragaman tingkat semai dan pohon tergolong sedang, sedangkan pada sapihan dan tiang tergolong tinggi. Hasil wawancara menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas masyarakat Desa Girikerto memanfaatkan tumbuhan untuk kayu bakar yang didapatkan dari ranting kering yang jatuh (76,97%).

Natural forest on the north slope of Mount Lawu has an important role as a source of water, especially for the people needs of Girikerto Village, Sine District, Ngawi. The forest must be preserved although natural forest of Mount Lawu have not protected forest status. Forest fires and illegal logging are serious threats for conservation of native species in the north slope of Mount Lawu. This study was conducted to determine the types of vegetation and their use by the village og Girikerto. The research was conducted in natural forests on north slope of Mount Lawu in July to August 2015. Data was using a nested sampling plots with size 20 m x 20 m, 10 m x 10 m, 5 m x 5 m and 2 m x 2 m for growth stage of three, poles, sapling, and seedling. Sampling intensity of 2,5% or 13 plots were placed by purposive sampling. Data of vegetation usase was obtained through interview with 155 villagers of Girikerto aged 60 and above using a questionnaire guide. The variables measured were species composition, Importance Value Index (INP), index diversity, and vegetation usage by Girikerto villagers. The results showed that the vegetation in the north slope of Mount Lawu consists of 19 species in 15 families. Seedling stage was dominated by uncenuncen kebo (Melastoma trachyphyllum), while the sapling and pole were dominated by acacia (Acacia mangium). Indegenous tree species recorded are bulu (Ficus), cobor (Litsea angulata), jingkat (Macaranga javanica), condong lawe (Engelhardia spicata), cempaka putih (Michelia alba), dan sarangan (Castanopsis argentea). Index diversity of seedlings and trees classified as medium, while the sapling and pole are high. Interviews showed that the majority of villagers use the vegetation for firewood that obtained from dry twigs which fall (76.97%).
