Motivasi adalah sesuatu tenaga atau faktor yang terdapat dalam diri manusia, yang menimbulkan, mengharapkan, dan mengorganisasikan suatu perilaku yang utuh. Perawatan ortodontik merupakan tindakan perawatan dan pencegahan kelainan dentofacial agar tercapainya oklusi yang sehat, seimbang, stabil dengan estetik yang menyenangkan. Motivasi selama perawatan ortodontik akan mempengaruhi jalannya perawatan karena pasien bertanggung jawab dalam menjaga kebersihan mulut, kunjungan berkala ke dokter gigi serta pemakaian alat tambahan pada ortodontik cekat Kebersihan mulut merupakan faktor penting dalam suksesnya perawatan ortodontik. Kelalaian dalam menjaga kebersihan mulut memiliki dampak negatif pada hasil perawatan ortodontik, penampilan estetika, dan dapat menyebabkan gigi berlubang, gingivitis, periodontitis. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh motivasi perawatan ortodontik terhadap status kebersihan mulut pasien ortodontik cekat. Penelitian ini melakukan penilaian motivasi perawatan ortodontik menggunakan kuesioner motivasi dan penilaian terhadap status kebersihan mulut menggunakan indeks O'Leary. Subjek penelitian ini melibatkan 22 pasien dengan perawatan ortodontik cekat teknik edgewise pada tahap 2 dan 3. Hasil pemeriksaan dianalisis menggunakan analisis korelasi Pearson dan regresi sederhana pada masing-masing variabel. Hasil analisis korelasi Pearson dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan terdapat hubungan kuat dan bermakna antara motivasi perawatan ortodontik terhadap status kebersihan mulut (r= -0,598 ; p=0,03). Hasil analisis regresi menyatakan bahwa motivasi perawatan ortodontik mempengaruhi 32,6% status kebersihan dan sisanya sebanyak 67,4% dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain yang tidak diteliti oleh penelitian ini (R2=0,326 ; p=0,03). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah motivasi perawatan ortodontik memiliki pengaruh terhadap status kebersihan mulut pada pasien ortodontik cekat di Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut Prof. Soedomo.

Motivation is exertion or factors which is cause, expect, and organize a behavior in human being. Orthodontic treatment is an act of prevention and care dentofacial abnormalities to achieve occlusion healthy, balanced, stable with estetik pleasant. Motivation during the orthodontic treatment will cause the continuity of the treatment because of patient's responsibility to take care of their oral hygiene, dental checkup, and also the use of additional equipment in fixed orthodontic. Oral hygiene is important factor to be success in orthodontic treatment. Failure of keeping oral hygiene will cause negative effects in result, appearance, and will cause dental cavities, gingivitis, periodontitis. The purpose of this research is to know the influence of motivation orthodontic treatment about the status of fixed orthodontic patient's oral hygiene. This research is assessing orthodontic treatments motivation using a questionnaire motivation and assessing oral hygiene status with index O'Leary. This research subject is 22 patients with fixed orthodontic treatment in 2nd and 3rd stage of edgewise technique. The result of this research will be analyzed using pearson correlation and simple regression for each of variables. The result of pearson correlation analysis showed a strong relationship and meaningful between orthodontic treatment motivation with oral hygiene status (r= -0,598 ; p=0,03). The result of regression analysis is appropriate to be used and 32,6% status of oral hygiene affected by orthodontic treatment motivation and the rest is about 67,4% affected by other factors which is not the part of this research (R2=0,326 ; p=0,03). The conclusion of this research is orthodontic treatments motivation is having influence about the status of oral hygiene in fixed orthodontic patients in Dental Hospital Prof .Soedomo.
