IDENTIFIKASI KINERJA REPRODUKSI KAMBING PERANAKAN ETTAWA PADA BODY CONDITION SCORE BERBEDA MENGGUNAKAN METODE VAGINAL SMEAR

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kinerja reproduksi kambing Peranakan Ettawa pada dua body condition score (BCS) berbeda melalui pengamatan sitologi vagina. Materi penelitian yang digunakan adalah indukan kambing Peranakan Ettawa sejumlah 6 ekor, dikelompokkan menjadi 2 kelompok perlakuan, kelompok I BCS 2 (n=3) dan kelompok II BCS 3 (n=3). Penentuan BCS dengan meraba bagian belakang tulang tepatnya pada bagian spinous process, vertebral angle, dan longissimus. Vaginal smear diidentifikasi dengan mengambil preparat sel epitel vagina setiap hari selama dua siklus estrus dan dilakukan pewarnaan dengan larutan Giemsa 30%. Pengukuran pH cairan vagina dilakukan setiap hari. Pengamatan visual dilakukan dengan melihat gejala visual estrus yang tampak. Data yang diambil berupa sitologi sel-sel vagina, tanda-tanda visual estrus (vulva merah, vulva bengkak, vulva berlendir, dan perubahan tingkah laku (gelisah, tidak tenang, sulit di handling), pH cairan vagina ternak dan kinerja reproduksi (postpartum estrus dan days open). Kinerja reproduksi diperoleh melalui wawancara kemudian dianalisis dengan t-test. Tanda-tanda visual estrus dianalisis secara deskriptif. pH dan jumlah sel superfisial dianalisis menggunakan Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persentase tanda-tanda visual yang muncul pada indukan kambing PE BCS 2 16,65% dan BCS 3 91,65%. Rata-rata pengukuran pH saat estrus adalah 7.84±0.52 pada BCS 2 dan 8.39±0.29 pada BCS 3. Rata-rata kinerja reproduksi days open, postpartum estrus dan service per conception 127.00±6.082 (P<0.05); 67.67±2.516 (P<0.05); dan 1.92±0.05 (P<0,05) pada BCS 2 dan 112.67±2.516 (P<0,05); 57.67±2.516 (P<0,05); dan 1.56±0.11 (P<0,05) pada BCS 3. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah indukan kambing peranakan Ettawa yang memiliki BCS 3 menunjukkan tanda-tanda birahi yang lebih nyata dan kinerja reproduksi yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan indukan yang memiliki BCS 2 ditinjau dari postpartum estrus, days open dan service per conception.

This study was designed to determine the reproductive performance of Ettawa crossed breed goats based on body condition score (BCS) through the observation of vaginal cytology. Six Ettawa crossed breed goats does were divided into two groups, group I BCS 2 (n = 3) and group II BCS 3 (n = 3). Body condition score was determinated by palpating arround of the spinous process, vertebral angle, and longissimus. Vaginal smears were taken every day during two estrous cycle and stained using Giemsa solution 30%. pH test was taken every day. Sign of estrus was observed base on visual symptom such as a red , swollen vulva , vulva slimy , and changes in behavior (restless, edgy, tough handling). Data of the vaginal cytology, visual signs of estrus, pH of vaginal mucus and reproductive performance (postpartum estrus days open and service per conception) were collected. Reproductive performance was obtained through interviews then analyzed using t-test. Visual signs of estrus were analyzed descriptively. pH and the number of superficial cells was analyzed using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). The results showed that the percentage of visual signs that appear on goat BCS 2 and 3 were 16.65% and 91.65%. The average pH when estrus was 7.84±0.52 on BCS 2 and 8.39±0.29 on BCS 3. Days open, postpartum estrus and service per conception 127.00±6.082 (P <0.05); 67.67±2.516 (P<0.05); and 1.96±0.05 (P<0,05) on the BCS 2 and 112.67±2.516 (P<0.05) ; 57.67±2.516 (P <0.05) and 1.56±0.11 (P<0,05) on the BCS 3. The conclution of this study showed that Ettawa crossed breed goat which have BCS 3 showed signs of estrus and reproductive performance better than Ettawa crossed breed goat which have BCS 2 in term of postpartum estrus, days open and service per conception.
