Resolving it alignment gaps :: A Case study of PT Semen Gresik (Persero) Tbk

Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara mewawancarai para manajer di PT Semen Gresik (Persero) Tbk. untuk menjawab pertanyaan tentang bagaimana memecahkan IT alignment gaps yang terjadi di perusahaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan IT alignment model yang dibuat oleh Henderson (1990) untuk menjelaskan dan menjawab pertanyaan tersebut. Enam faktor tentang partnership relationship yang digunakun sebagai variabel pengamatan untuk menjelaskun tentang daya IT alignment gaps adalah: 1) mutual benefits, 2) commitments, 3) predispositions, 4) shared knowledge, 5) distinctive competencies, dan 6) organizational linkages. Variabe I-variabel tersebut adblah indikutor untuk mengetahui adannya IT alignment gaps antara IT dan strategi bisnis. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan gambaran yang mengindkasikan bahwa terjadi IT alignment gaps hampir disemua indikator dari partnership relationship. Variabel-variabel tersebut adalah mutual benefits, commitments, predispositions, shared knowledge, dan organization linkuges. Variabel-variabel tersebut berhubungan dengan usaha bagaimana membuat IT alignment dapat berkelanjutan untuk waktu yang lama, dan aktifitas sehari-hari yang mempengaruhi partner berkerjasama. Juga ditemukun beberapa penghambat yang berhbungan dengan kesiapan hi IT infastuktur di perusahaan. Untuk mengatasi IT alignment gaps tersebut, direkomendasikan untuk melakukan education, joint planning, assessment and accountability, teaming, multilevel human resource strategy, dirn technology investment serta organization restructuring
This study examines IT alignment gaps in business. Managers of PT Semen Gresik (Persero) Tbk. were interviewed to answer the questions of how to resolve IT alignment gaps occurred in the firm. A model of IT alignment gaps of Henderson (1 990) was used to explain such question. Six factors of partnership relationships as observed variables to identrfi the existent of IT alignment gaps: I) mutual benefits, 2) commitments, 3) predispositions, 4) shared knowledge, 5) distinctive competencies, and 6) organizational linkages. Those observed variables are indicators to identrfi the IT alignment gaps between IT and business strategy. The results show the pattern of IT alignment that indicates lacks of almost all partnership relationships variables. Those are mutual benefits, commitments, predispositions, shared knowledge, and organization linkages. Those indications relate to the effort how to make IT alignment sustain in long terms purpose, and the dy-to-day activities that influence the political power of parties to conduct the relationships. Several barriers also identified relate to the readiness of IT infrastructures in the firm. To reduce those IT alignment gaps and leverage the existence of IT alignment are suggested to conduct education, joint planning, assessment and accountability, teaming, multilevel human resource strategy, and technology investment, and organization restructuring.
