Facilitating business process reengineering :: The Case of SAP R/3 implementation in Pertamina

Dalam menerapkan ERP di PERTAMNA, pcran dan pengaruh reengineering telah mendapatkan perhatian melalui penilaian dan pengevaluasian terhadap critical success factors (CSFs) yang berpengaruh terhadap proses implementasi. BPR merupakan bagian dari proses penerapan ERP yang dipercepat. Fokus penilaian adalah pa& saat implementasi. Akan tetapi, penilaian terhadap kurakteristik dan kapabilitas organisasi sobelum melaksanakan proyek reengineering, dalam ha1 ini proyek ERP, belum mendapat perhatian khusus. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengiiient lJikasi karakteristik perusahaan yang diperlukan sebelum melaksanakan proyek penerapan BPR di PERTAMI". Studi ini menggunakan implementasi SAP W3 di PERTAMNA sebagai studi kasus untuk menjelaskan factor-faktor reengineering yang mempunyai kontribusi terhadap sukses implementasi. Pertanyaan utama penelitian iiii: "Apakah PERTAMINA mempunyai kapabilitas organisasi yang memungkinkan untuk suksesnya reengineering? " terjuwab oleh temuan yang mengident@kasi bahwa perusahaan belum menganggap penerapan ERP sebagai inisiatif reengineering. PERTAMNA musih mempunyai hambatan dalam karakteristik dan kapabilitas organisasinya untuk mencapai reengineering yang sukses. Persepsi yang berbeda terhadap reengirieering jugu ditemukan dalam studi ini. Studi ini mengajukan beberupa implikasi managerial.

In implementing ERP in PERTAMINA, the role of reengineering in ERP implementation has been addressed by assessing u d evaluating critical success factors that afecting implementution process. ReengineeringIBPR factor is one of important critical success factors that can significantly influences inplementation success. BPR is a part of accelerated ERP implementation process. The focus of evaluation is during the implementation. However, the evaluation oj' organizational characteristic needed before embarking reengineering project, in this case ERP implementation project, is not particularly explored yet. This study aims to identi& organizational characteristics that required before embarking business process reengineering implementation project in PERTAMI". The study uses an implementation of SAP W3 as a case to explain reengineering factors contributing to the success of the' implementation. The main research question: "Does PERTAMINA have an organizational characteristic that is well positioned far successfiil reengineering? " is answered by the findings that identifws the company need to be more concern on raising awareness that ERP implementation is an important reengineering initiative. PERTAMNA still has an obstacle on its organizational characteristic that is well positioned for successjid reengineering. Diferent perceptions toward reengineering found in this st@.
