Translation Procedures: Borrowing and Calque Found in the Translation of the Novel Beastly

Penelitian ini mendiskusikan prosedur penerjemahan terutama peminjaman dan calque dalam terjemahan novel Beastly ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi dan mengklasifikasi peminjaman kata berbahasa Inggris dan calque dalam terjemahan novel Beastly. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua bagian, bagian pertama membahas klasifikasi peminjaman kata dan bagian kedua mendiskusikan tentang klasifikasi calque. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dari 200 data peminjaman kata dan calque yang ada, peminjaman kata menunjukkan hasil paling besar dengan 164 data dan 36 data sisanya masuk ke dalam calque. Seluruh 36 data yang ditemukan dalam sumber data termasuk ke dalam lexical calque dan tidak ada data yang ditemukan dalam kategori structural calque. kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peminjaman kata dan calque digunakan untuk memenuhi keterbatasan kata dan untuk mempertahankan originalitas pesan dalam teks bahasa target.

This study aims to discuss the translation procedures especially borrowing and calque found in the translation of the novel Beastly. the objectives of this study is to identify and classify the English borrowing words and calque found in the translation of the novel Beastly. the analysis of the data were divided in two sections; the first part deals with the classification of the borrowing words and the second part shows the classification of the calque. the result shows that out of 200 data of borrowing and calque, borrowing shows the biggest number with 164 data and the rest 36 data belong to calque. all of the 36 data belong to lexical calque and there are no words found in structural calque. the conclusions of the study show that both borrowing and calque are used in dealing with lexical gap and to maintain the originality of the messages in the target language text.
