One of the keys to success for a company in facing the global competition is managing its operations effectively and efficiently. The competition will force the companies to increase their performance by making good planning, operating the companies more effective and more efficient, and monitoring the operations in order to survive fiom the competition. Every company is also demanded to have high competitive advantage in order to survive and grow in the intensive competition. This competition forces the companies to make the appropriate and right decisions in all subjects. The decisions must be taken in order to make the needed adjustment because of the situation that has changed from time to time. One of the important decisions for companies that must be taken is about the company’s inventory planning and controlling because they are major expenses in the company especially in manufacturing company. Ths research was conducted to examine whether PT. Dmia Setia Sandang Asli has already planned and controlled its inventories optimally. The research found that the company uses traditional system that orders in large quantity and when the inventory remains a lot in the warehouse. The researcher tried to use Closed- Loop MRP system to evaluate the company’s needed materials and found out about how much the needed materials and when the order must be conducted. Based on the comparisons between the MRP calculation and the company actual plan, the research shows that the company had high level of inventories. The amount of inventories is much bigger than the company needed. It made the company suffered fiom too many costs that finally reduce the company’s competitive advantage to survive and grow in the intensive competition
