The Preventive Effect of Ethanolic Extract of Avocado(Persea americana Mill)) Seed On The Increased Blood Pressure of Wistar Rats Induced by Administration of Epinephrine

Latar Belakang: Hipertensi adalah salah satu faktor risiko utama dalam menyebabkan penyakit seperti penyakit kardiovaskular. Di samping itu, pengembangan obat-obat tradisional pada saat ini sedang popular dalam mengobati hipertensi di tempat obat-obat pharmaseutika. Oleh yang sedemikian, efek preventif ekstrak ethanol biji Alpukat (Persea americana Mill)pada peningkatan tekanan darah di tikus Wistar dipelajari dalam penelitian ini. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji efek preventif biji Alpukat (Persea americana Mill) pada peningkatan tekanan darah di tikus Wistar. Metode: Penelitian berbentuk experiment ini melibatkan sebanyak dua puluh lima tikus Wistar yang dibagi menjadi lima kelompok yang berbeda; kontrol negative (Aquadest), kontrol (Captopril), Dosis I (240mg/kgBW ekstrak), Dosis II (260mg/kgBW ekstrak) dan Dosis III (280mg/kgBW ekstrak). Semua kelompok tikus diinjeksikan dengan Epinefrin untuk menginduksi hipertensi sementara pada tikus. Hasil dianalisa secara post-hoc menggunakan Tukey HSD. Hasil: Dosis III menunjukkan efek preventif yang signifikan (p<0.05) pada peningkatan tekanan darah di tikus. Efek ini juga meningkat setara dengan peningkatan dosis. Kesimpulan: Hasil menunjukkan ekstrak ethanol biji Alpukat (Persea Americana Mill)ada efek preventif pada peningkatan tekanan darah di tikus Wistar yang diinduksi dengan pemberian Epinefrin.

Background: Hypertension is the one of the main risk factors in causing diseases especially cardiovascular disease. In addition to that, development of traditional medicine has been garnering attention in treating hypertension instead of pharmaceutical medications. Thus, in this study preventive effect of ethanolic extract of Avocado's (Persea Americana Mill) seed extract on increased blood pressure of Wistar rats is studied. Objectives: The objective of this study is to know the preventive effect of Avocado's (Persea americana)on increased blood pressure of Wistar rats. Methods: This experimental study involves twenty-five rats divided into five groups which are negative control (Aquadest), positive control (captopril), Dose I (240mg/kgBW of extract), Dose II (260mg/kgBW of extract) and Dose III (280mg/kgBW of extact). All the groups are induced with short term hypertension with injection of Epinephrine. The post hoc analysis used is Tukey HSD. Results: Dose III has significantly (p<0.05) prevented increase in blood pressure. The effect is shown to have increased with concentration. Conclusion: The result implies the ethanol extract of Avocado's (Persea Americana Mill) shows preventive effect on increased blood pressure of Wistar rats induced by Epinephrine.
