INTISARI Dewasa ini pendidikan merupakan hal yang sangat penting dalam kehidupan. Dalam pendidikan yang berkualitas, diperlukan adanya suatu strategi yang terdiri atas metode dan teknik untuk mengajar. Hal ini diperlukan agar ilmu yang disampaikan oleh guru dapat diterima dengan baik oleh siswa. Seperti halnya dalam pembelajaran lain, dalam pembelajaran bahasa juga terdapat metode khusus yang di dalam metode itu sendiri memiliki beberapa teknik. Beberapa metode belajar tersebut antara lain: Grammar Translation Method, Direct Method, Audio Lingual Method, Silent Way, dan Total Physical Response. Dengan hal ini, tujuan utama dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui metode pengajaran Bahasa Inggris di TK Negeri 1 Sleman. Tujuan berikutnya adalah untuk mengetahui beberapa kompetensi yang dimiliki oleh siswa terhadap keefektifan metode yang telah digunakan di dalam kelas. Metode pengambilan data ini dilakukan dengan cara studi lapangan dan studi pustaka. Untuk studi lapangan, berkaitan dengan profil singkat TK Negeri 1 Sleman penulis telah mewawancarai Kepala Sekolah dan juga Staf Hubungan Masyarakat sekolah ini. Selain itu, beberapa kegiatan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di TK Negeri 1 Sleman khususnya di kelas B5 juga telah diamati dan direkam dalam bentuk video. Guru pengajar juga telah diwawancarai untuk mengetahui kesulitan atau hambatan yang telah dihadapi dalam proses belajar mengajar yang telah berlangsung. Di sisi lain, untuk studi pustaka, buku tahunan siswa TK Negeri 1 Sleman, buku-buku pendukung, dan juga beberapa artikel dari internet yang mendukung telah dibaca untuk mendukung penyelesaian penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi yang diterapkan dalam proses belajar mengajar Bahasa Inggris di TK Negeri 1 Sleman terdiri atas metode dan teknik. Terdapat dua metode yang dipakai dalam proses ini; Total Physical Response dan Direct Method. Pada masing-masing metode tersebut memiliki teknik-teknik yang dalam pengaplikasiannya disesuaikan dengan situasi dan kondisi suatu kelas. Sehingga dalam satu waktu proses belajar mengajar dimungkinkan adanya lebih dari satu metode yang digunakan. Hal yang demikian dilakukan untuk mendapatkan kualitas mengajar yang diharapkan yaitu ilmu dapat disampaikan oleh guru dan diterima dengan baik oleh para siswa. ABSTRACT These days education is very important in life. In a good quality education, teaching strategy that includes methods and technique is needed so that the knowlege which presented by teacher may receive well by students. As in other subjects learning, there are also some methods in foreign language learning, and the methods itself also consist of some techniques. Several of those methods are: Grammar Translation Method, Direct Method, Audio Lingual Method, Silent Way, and Total Physical Response. In this regard, the main goal of this research is to observe methods of English teaching at TK Negeri 1 Sleman. The next goal is to find out some of the competencies possessed by students on the effectiveness of the methods that are used in the classroom. The data collection was done by means of field studies and literature. For the field study, a brief profile associated with Negeri 1 Sleman Kindergarten was collected by interviewing the Principal and Community Relations Staff of this school. In addition, video recording also taken in some of English learning activities of class B5 of TK Negeri 1 Sleman to support the observation. Thus, English teacher also to be interviewed to know the difficulties or obstacles that have been encountered in the English learning process. On the other hand, for the completion of this research, a student yearbook of TK Negeri 1 Sleman, other supporting books and articles from internet also contributed to support the study of literature. The result of this study indicates that the strategy of learning English at TK Negeri 1 Sleman consists of methods and techniques. There were two methods which used in this English learning process; Total Physical Response and Direct Method. In its application, each method has techniques that were adapted to the situation and condition of the class so it makes possibility to use more than one method in one time of learning process. It was performed to obtain the expected quality of language teaching whereas knowledge can be delivered by the teachers and well received by students.
